RE: Barris comments unwarranted.

I think Jack should work for the UN, he speaks wisely.

Yes, I too am a fan of Barris and watching that 66 come around the bend from the batcave made me drool as a kid. I've met him various times as a fan...but unfortunetly later also as an employee of Hot Wheels. The guy just wants lots of money up front for anything with his name on it. We couldn't come to an agreement and the worse part was that 66 Batmobile. As some of you know my DREAM was to have a diecast 1/18 66 Batmobile made by Hot Wheels. After he promised we could do it...along came WB saying nope. He went on and on about how he had the rights and WB could "stick it". I think he really believes that! Anyway, WB said we could never do a 66 and that was it.

The thing that I think gets me is my protectiveness over the 89 Batmobile. I mean Anton Furst designed it and even sculpted most of the 2 1/2 foot model I have here. The guy was waaaay ahead of his time back in the late eighties. I'm not sure if Barris knows or cares but Anton is now DEAD. Yes, he took his own life but an ex-wife can do that to you out in LA. The Forever car was designed by another friend of mine Tim Flattery. He instructed some of my classes back in Art Center and he is amazing also. Both Tim and Anton created Batmobiles from scratch and again with all respects to the 66 fans out there (me included), Barris MODIFIED a Lincoln Futura.

I never meant to get anyone worked up but felt I should explain myself (or my strange opinions) in a bit more detail. I also left LA (maybe not forever) because of the politics out there went it came to custom rodding. I mean look at the Chip Foose (school mate) and Boyd's feud. Seems like some of my child-hood memories have been "tainted" somewhat over time.

Anyway...getting off the soap box now!

Peace to all Batmobile fans out there! 66, 89, Returns, Forever, B&R (yeah, I know), and the Tumbler! Some of the comic Batmobiles were just as cool, anyone see Simon Bisley's version?

Dave
p.s.Yes, I'll sign anything for anyone. Well, not ANYTHING...

RE: Barris comments unwarranted.

Dave,

I totally agree for you there on the barris' claims.
When I worked for Winfield in the 80's I showed Gene the
Barris Hardcover Book ' star cars' printed 1974.
Well Gene got so pissed off that Mr B had taken credit
for a ton of his work from the 60-70's he just yelled 'BULLSHIT'
When I met up with Jeffries....same thing!
So you can't blame the old age tag on Mr B...the BS has been goin' on a looong time!!!
And now we have the internet and there's all sorts of 'geeks'
takin' credit, lying or makin' up bullshit in our little bat circle and they'll keep doin it over and over and over again.

RE: Barris comments unwarranted.

The only problem with you, stocklottery, was not anything you said about Barris or the '89. It was your bitching about other peoples comments, telling us to make sure our brains are in gear before we speak. I think that was a little uncalled for.

Anyways, bygones...

Well Tim,

I think a lot of things or uncalled for on this post subject. It's taken way out of context (it's sometimes simpler than what it is--but I shall make it clearer from the next post on and I do understand people misinterpret wordings--we are human after all. Besides, I did not meant to be rude in anyway. Agreed, lets bygone be bygone. End of Subject.

It's good to know I did not say anything bad about Barris or the 89'.

RE: Barris comments unwarranted.

I don't really care what issues Barris have with some other builders, business associates, etc; it's not my forte (my goal is only to build an 89').

Then you'd do well not to annoy the people here, who ARE, in fact, the ONLY people who'll help you obtain and complete your dream car. Your "Stars" are not interested in selling you a car, kit body or other as you're too small of a fish for them.

Welcome to the board, but be REAL careful of what you "think" is the truth about who built what and who takes credit for what and what deals are made in Seafood Restaurant Bars for "new" original cars to be built in who's name.

HI GUYS!!!!

MISS ME????

I'M BACK!!!!

... and I really wish I could comment on this thread, but you guys know I know when not to bite the hand(s) that feed me. So I won't.

Lots happening in the world of Star Cars. (Don't worry Jack, I have more pics)

I'll be reading the boards over the next few days and I'll keep some of you updated on happenings.

Looks like Bob C and I have something cool cooking and I managed to pick up more Bat toys for my "friends" while I was out there. Look in your mailboxes for heavy envelopes!

I'll be back soon, but for now, I have to go see my girls, I'm sure they miss me too.

And YES Justin, I did get re-aquainted with my TN girl too. And NO it's not your ex dude!

"Where does he get those wonderful toys?"
He MAKES them you idiot!

RE: Barris comments unwarranted.

Dave,

Am I correct that Hotwheels is under the Warner unbrella? I know this is a can of worms and more than likely been covered many times on the '66 board, but aren't there 3 entities that lay claim to the TV car, Barris, 20th Cent and the producers. I'm sure wiuth that many claims getting any 66 car replicated in diecast would be a challenge. Didn't the same problem shelve the Danbury car?

Jeez Batgod,

This subject ended quite a while back. Like I said, Barris's business issues are his business with others, your business issue (if any) are your business, what other business/issues other people have are there own. Again, it's not my forte/business to be concerned about other people business.

RE: Barris comments unwarranted.

BatDemon,

Yup, you're correct. Barris has no problems agreeing to do a 66 Batmobile. The problem is 1) he wants a big cut of the sales (his royalty fee) and 2) WB simply hates the guy and unless they have nothing else to license out to toy and collector companies, will never agree on allowing a 66 Batmobile. This car is a mess because WB owns anything Batman (logos, etc.) but Barris/ Fox owns the "look" of the car...something like that, even I'm confused.

I don't remember exactly what went wrong but we did prototype and propose a 66 Batmobile as a Barris car...all black, no bat-symbols. The collector would put on a "Bat kit" to turn it into a 66 Batmobile. That went nowhere also.

I was on the 66 forum years ago discussing a lot of this and asking for advice.

Dave

I'm not sure why you're quoting yourelf there Souk but I think what people here are trying to say to you is be a little more HUMBLE in your approach around here. If a lot of us are saying that you may have said something wrong...and you want some info on the 1989 from people HERE...then take your lumps and bumps man! I know I sure did over the years. Some of your replies are waaaaaay too defensive...chill.
