How many out there?

Okay, this question has been asked before and now it is being asked again (by a shy CLTC member).

How many cars and Replicas are out there?

I think we all agree that there are 2 original cars, right?

How many museum cars are there?
How many 6 Flags cars are there?
How many Turn Key and replica kits have been sold?

The GA came from Yancey so that is one confirmed.

Turn Keys/Kits
Yancey ?/1
Batgod ?/?
Mark ?/?
Kevin 0/0 (so far)
Hawk 1/?
Dan's builder ?/?
Jay ?/?
Timb 1/?
etc....

We know about the Saudi car and the Carmel car (Who built them and where did the kits come from?).

To be honest I really don't care how many there are I just want to see Dee and Rusty get busy on theirs...

""I just want to see Dee and Rusty get busy on theirs""

And there it is. The gauntlet has been thrown down . Guess I'll have to get my ass in gear. I won't be doing anything for the next two weeks. The family member that i spoke of before when I said was sick and probably wouldn't see christmas was my Nan and she died this morning. That'll be a 2 week process with the funeral and all that so I probably won't be here much for the next 2 weeks.

Sorry about your Nan, Dee. I don't have any of my grandparents
anymore, and I do miss them. Sorry to hear that.
As for cars....
At 6-8 built at trix racers for the six flags shows.
And what ever happened to "tottaly FUN" productions in Florida?
There is one 89 the #2 at the Petersen in LA

Dee, I am so sorry for your loss. You have my and everyone at CLTCs sympathy and prayers. If there is anything I or anyone else can do please let us know. We will miss you while you are with your family but please take your time and be with them. Sounds like she held on just for that one last Christmas.

RE: How many out there?

It's the batman returns car, if it was any other museum, I would probably question it but the Petersen is in a class by itself. They have the #1 66 batmobile, the #1 Black Beauty, the original Professor Fate Car, they don't buy junk. If they got a replica of Jay's or Bob's I would be very surprised. The plaque says it was used in returns. I will have to go there this year and look with more discerning eyes to make sure. (clown trippers?) it does have a finished interior. Anyone know anything that would disprove this?

Here's one more!

John Oquinn's car"Night Court 2005 was as crazy as ever. This year John O'Quinn, a very wealthy and notorious plaintiff's attorney, loaned us a Batmobile (an actual Batmobile used in the movie) for the show.

RE: How many out there?

Sorry Nate but it's just like all the other WB Returns #2s sitting all over the world. They all have the same "Film used" plaques. Most if all of them have non functional gundoors, side doors, and trunk lids. Just a copy but a WB approved and sold copy. Each came with a nice contract from the WB. Heck I think Kruze has sold several of them as the #2 Returns car.

RE: How many out there?

No Rusty.

There are a lot more in private hands than that. But you have to remember... A lot of rich people have them who aren't real big Batman fans.

They just bought the car because it was a cool thing to add to their fleet of Panteras and Ferraris and Porsches.

So their not interested in the board or bat-geeks or even showing off the car. It was just something fun to do with their money.

Thursday night, I gave a country guy's (I stopped dropping the name, looks like we're friends again.) manager a dozen reasons why the star DOESN'T need a Batmobile, so he could help me talk him OUT of the car.

The guys wife doesn't want him to get a car with no doors anyway. Part of our discussion was adding doors. YUCK!!!!

But I can assure you. They are on the streets of New York, Chicago and Schamburg IL, Davenport IA, Muskeegon MI, Miami FL, Branson MO, Las Vegas NV, Indiannapolis IN, Toms River Trenton and Flemington NJ, Warwick RI, and San Francisco to name a few.

RE: How many out there?

Most of the time, people don't have their cameras ready to take shots of a moving vehicle. Most of these cars don't stay parked long enough for people to run and get their cameras.

One guy, has a renovated barn in Pennsylvannia that is partially embedded in the side of a hill. He's removed the barn and built his own Batcave in the hill for his 89. He then put the run-down barn BACK in front of it with a hidden door in the back that opens with a garage door opener.

89 goes in the barn... doors close... doors open... NO 89!

Hard to "track down" a car that becomes invisible.

Some clients just like having them.

The one in Ann Arbor is sitting next to a 66 in a Batcave replica. The owner flew out here to meet up with some of my prop and costume making friends and they hooked him up with a batcave full of bat-weapons and costumes from both the 66 and the 89 films to decorate his place. Next to those two... He's got a Black Beauty he got from Silent Bob in a replica of Brit Reed's garage.

Another client in CA keeps his car in a 12 bay garage down the hill from his back patio area. He invites his guests to check out his movie car collection from the patio. Just pushes a remote for the doors and all 6 (one door per two bays) doors open and you can see all the cars from above.

And you never see pics of these guys collections because they're not in it for the publicity, they just like having the cars.

RE: How many out there?

Awesome information BatGod. Do you know if the guy in Davenport IA is a regular guy or is he a rich/famous guy? I live about two and half hours from there in IA and would love to find out who it is so I can check the car out. I assume a real builder would be way more friendly about a guest than would some rich guy who just bought it as a toy. Anyway, keep telling the stories, they're great!
Matt

Wow, that is really cool. I've got to get me a barn like that. Especially if I can connect the batcave underground with my house.

RE: How many out there?

Interesting stuff from the Batman Returns Offical Collectors Mag:

"There is only supposed to be one Batmobile in batman Returns, but in reality it takes at least 6 full size vehicles- plus an assortment of section, complete minatures and Batmissles- to create this remarkable car."

"Two Batmobiles, descibed as "fully functional" by unit production manager Ian Bryce, were constructed in England for the first Warner Bros. Film."

"We had them shipped over from Englan and totally stripped down - restored almost from the ground up. Their electronics, lighting and mechanics were toally converted to the American system, so that if anything went wrong, we could fix it faster."

Chuck Graspar elaborates: "We went though the engines, put in new racing transmissions.. When they came over herethey didn;t run half as well as (Tim Burton) wanted. And right now these things can cook."

Byce calls an additional couple of Batmobiles "good looking cars," "cars that could go to a merchandising show." They gleam and glisten and look really georgous. They have really wonderful interiors, but not interiors that you would shoot for the movie. They're a bit too modern, a little too comfortable. Those we would use if we just needed a static shot."

"Two more Batmobiles were designed with specific gimmicks in mind involving the wheels and fenders, but could not be used in full shots. One existing batmobile was actually cut in half lengthwise to allow greater access to the interior for various effects shots. The half-car also permits close ups of the impressive airplane like dashboard."

"And one full-sized Batmobile was equipped with a circular jack that shoots through the vehicle's chassis to the street, supports the car a foot in the air, spins it around to change direction, and then retracts"

Yes Batgod please let us know if the guy from Davenport is just a regular guy or not. I live 5 minutes from there on the other side of the river and would love to get a look at his car and take some measurements if he is willing. I'll share whatever info I get with the rest of you guys. Pics etc...

Hey Wyle???

Where on the other side of the river????

I used to live in Moline, home town of Jay Ohrberg. Were we neighbors? Have you noticed all of the movie cars running around the Davenport area?

I can't really tell you guys where to look for the car. That's always been the policy. But I can say, "keep your eyes open and you'll never know what you'll find!"

RE: How many out there?

I'll have to find a weekend to go Batsnoopong around Davenport looking for batcaves and old abandoned barns. Maybe I'll make a poster with a pic of the Batmobile and say - car lost - for reward call....
