RE: What do U do???

1) Archangel Printing - Screen printing business located here in Upland, Ca.
2) Walker Vending - Vending machine business (on a much smaller scale than Dee's, but expanding!) in the Inland Empire area. I have machines over a 60 mile stretch right now, and they are really starting to pull as the weather heats up.
3) Gymnastics Coach - Gym coach at Gym in Rancho Cucamonga, Ca. Coached gym for several years before and after my Army time, and I work with boys and girls teams ranging in ages from 5-18. My specialty is tumbling.
4) Odds and Ends - Random hair-brained ideas I get that cause me to get excited and start new little businesses! I am getting licensed as a car dealer this month so I can go to dealer auctions. Also have my "Bail Enforcement Agent" certificate, but not currently doing anything with it.

RE: What do U do???

started out life as a musician.

never made it big... good guitar player though...

got a degree in computer programming to get out of traveling
on the road as a musician..... forced myself to do it..

was a programmer for about 10yrs. some aspects of it I liked, most
I hated. sitting at a desk for 10+ hrs. a day....

Then in 1989 there was this ad on T.V. for this movie called Batman......

Several yrs. later I found a way out of the computer programming racket.

Since 1989, I have been hopelessly hooked on this "art" form. It's the
only thing I really enjoy doing outside of music. Something I'm actually
good at. Not been that good at much else....

Also started life out as a musician (bass player in Punk rock band), also never made it big!
Stepped to the other side of the desk, became a recording engineer in a 24 track studio.
Worked in a couple of factories making confectionary.
Did lots of part-time work as a youth leader.
Went to university & got a degree in Psychology & Geography.
Became a Teacher of Geography in High Schools (best job in the world - worst hours & pay).

RE: What do U do???

For some reason I feel compelled to mention that I've been in several blues bands that never made it. Not really a career choice though, I just like to play.
Went to college, got degrees in computer science and mathematics.
Did some phd math work, but had to drop out because of family/work.
Now I work full time for a small company that makes software for shell oil. At work I'm usually programming in PL/SQL, sql, c#, java, rebol, jsp, asp, php, or I'm doing database conversions.
I'm currently working on a few small businesses too, but I'll mention those once I'm rich.

RE: What do U do???

Never in a band.

My dad was a drummer in a band in the Gene Krupa days and drummer friends of mine freak out when they talk to my dad about those days.

Can't play an instrument to save my life, much to his disappointment. Tried everything. Took lessons in everything... can't play for shit.

Built a crapload of models as a kid, mostly cars... Saw the Barris BM at age 5 and got hooked.

Built spaceship models when a little film called Star Wars came out. Family friends owned a movie theatre and I racked up 2011 screenings over the years. Major SW geek! Speak "Greedo" to the wife when I want to piss her off or when my nephew tries to copy everything I say.

Had some cool cars as a kid (Ferrari, Vette, Challenger) but didn't know shit about them.

Became a Knight Rider geek at 17 because it was an 80's Batmobile. Tried to buy one from Jay Ohrberg who wanted 3 mil for the car. Built one myself. Attend conventions as an "expert", edited "Knight Rider Legacy" but still haven't seen all the episodes.

Some older friends who built models got a job at ILM and they scored me an interview.

Drove my KITT cross country for the ILM interview, got in town early, tripped over Jay's place on Hollywood Blvd. Never made the interview.

"Iron Eagle" comes out and I join the Air Force only to get kicked out for banging my boss' wife.

Back to Jay's. Little disagreement about banging his son's girlfriend, moved back home to Jersey.

Jay decides to retire, sells me Star Cars Hollywood and I truck molds and stuff from West to East, buy a shop and eat fibreglass for a living.

Cut down on the glass diet, currently shooting a 3 episode pilot called "TunerGirlz" about hot girls who build custom cars.

Still "doing" models.

and still can't play an instrument for shit. But I have autographed Josie and the Pussycats, ears, costumes, drumsticks and guitar from Rachel Leigh Cook which sits by my desk to remind me that I can't play. Whenever I forget that, I pick it up the guitar and embarrass myself.

(NO... I don't wear the ears!)

He MAKES them you idiot!

RE: What do U do???

Let's see...during the day, I drive a school bus for special needs kids ( my youngest son is Autistic, so this is one small way I can be involved. It helps to learn about kids with similar afflictions.)...other than that, like most of you, I welcome ANY opportunity to make extra cash!

My favorite cars (beside Batmobiles!) are Lincoln Continentals...I own two, a '66 4dr Sedan and a '79 Collector Series Continental. I also have a large collection of Lincoln die-cast cars and memorabilia.

On the Batmobile front, I hope to own something that resembles a Batmobile, someday....money and time are always an issue ...but until then I do have a large collection of various toy Batmobiles, so they'll do for now. ...I may get smacked for saying this here, but even more than a Batmobile, I'd rather have a replica of Barris' THE CAR! (see, back to Lincolns again )

I have a friend who makes parts off and on for Knight Rider replicas, he showed me how to make parts...so, as a novice I know the basics of fiberglassing.

I hope to get to know more of you here...I think this is a cool hobby you all have in common! -Matt K

RE: What do U do???

1) "Scheduling Director" at manufacturing corporation. Basically plant management - make sure everything goes the way I want etc etc.

2) Play in rock band. Make no money. Just enough to have a majorly massive guitar rig and some high end guitars. Occationally enough to pay for the 40' Diesel RV I bought (and lived in for a while).

3) Do odd stuff on the side - occasional model building work, some website/graphic design work, some guitar playing, and I own ONE vending machine. I guess I need to get some tips from the master vening machine people on the board.

Been recording 1st full length album with the band though, prepping for getting hitched, and tearing into the church/house I bought. Good news is I have plenty of spce for a huge outbuilding for the RV and future 89. Bad news is I just said FUTURE 89. I need more vending machines...
