why can't you make a batmobile?

why can't you make a batmobile?

I really don't see a problem by making your own batmobile with your own money. People make R2-D2's for themselves and for other members who pay for the parts. I see it like this. As long as you don't make any money off of it, you're fine. And as long as you say it's a replica of the batmobile, they can't sue you. Just don't go out making 200 of these things. or I guess someone on here could buy the likeness or rights to the car. Any takers?

RE: why can't you make a batmobile?

there really is no problem, i have heard of 3 cases where there have been problems and i have checked into each, 1 case was a guy who made one and started selling copys, another onew as a guy who made one and put it in a car show, the car show payed him to use it, another one was wb went after a guy who just owned one and drived it around, i have, for all my reaserch i cant find any hard evidance that this happen, i belive that one to be made up. now if they feel you are hurtting there imiage they can go after you, such as if u own a porn site and use the batmobile in pictures, that would be a no no, but if its for perosnal use, they cant really do much to you. also as u siad, people can buy diddfrnet parts fomr people to make there own r2d2, this is a legal loop hole, say one perosn sold just one fender of the batmobile not the whole car, another sold another part, and so on. they can take legal action but they cant really sue you becuase ur not selling the whole thing they can just give a c&d order.

RE: why can't you make a batmobile?

exactly. So with anyone making batmobiles or whatnot. Any pics so far of the progress, and any problems that you've run into. I'm sounding like the group moderator, which I'm not, but it doesn't hurt to see how people are doing on theirs. If only I had the money, say like 50,000. I'd be set. I'll look into making the car street legal. I'm thinkg you make the front lights, the headlights, and cut to holes in the side for amber turn signals. More to come with further developments

RE: why can't you make a batmobile?

I think the case of R2D2 and batmobile is different.
Batmobile is a car and more than likely you will drive the car .
I think it's in WB's right that no one drives the car around in public.

What if I hit an old lady with my custom batmobile? Will the newheadline read 'Some nutjob hit an old lady with his custom replica car' or 'Batmobile runs over old lady'?

And have you guys seen the car in real life? I don't see how anyone can drive it without no side view mirror ot he back mirror. And the car I think is barely 6 inches off the ground.

Also, even those batmobiles that were auctioned off officially came with strict agreement that you have to sign that you will not drive the car in public or engage in any activity inside the car.

RE: why can't you make a batmobile?

starlight,

unless someone is making money off there design they tend to leave fans alone, look at the guy that dressed up as a hightlander and went and choped of a buch of peoples heads.

plus its easy to drive the car in real life, i spent a long time working out all street legal problems for my batmobile, the issues that you siad were the easyest to solve. side view mirros on mine will rise up out of the body, the rear mirror is paled in side, the back vents, pop up and split in half opeing to reveal a window. and while the car is 6 inchs off the ground, u can raise it up easly, the way im doing it is with hydrolics.

Drew Perry,
the best way to do the head lights is add flip up headlights to the front, as for the turn singals the 3 vetns on the front side works, then the front headlight turns into the front singal.

starlight
,
forgot to add, you are right about the hitting an old lady thing, but seeing as there patent is almost up they cant really stop anyone form building one and driving it even selling, unless they feel it hurts there franchies but in order for them to enforce that there would have to be a inncodent.

Lol. True that, sg1star. Hey, btw, you are on the 1989 BATMOBILE page of my site now. I will e-mail you in a day or two to chat. I have to go take some pics of a '66 in LA tomorrow, so maybe Sunday.

Hey guys, listen to this guy. He knows what he is talking about. He is doing an awesome job, and for all the right reasons!

RE: why can't you make a batmobile?

I was thinking, keep the headlights down at the bottom, and at the side, where those vents are, near the front wheels, put the amber turn signals there. so tha whole thing glows organge when you turn. would be interesting. On cars on how low they are, i don't think it really matters unless you go over a speed bump, but I'd raise it like an inch, so 7 inches off the ground.

RE: why can't you make a batmobile?

u should check ur state laws, down here u need the turn singles to be seen from front view, side, and back, so just having the turn singal on the vents wont work. best way i found is to add flip up headlights like on sports cars and turn the orignal front light into a turn singal. what i plan to do wtih mine so it looks even coller is have a bat symbol cut out on the headlight so when i flip the headlights up it displays a batsymoble on the road or if im infront of a wall, on the wall.

RE: why can't you make a batmobile?

aslo in some states there are a min how low the headlights can be to the ground, and angle they have to be set at, hence another reaosn for adding flip up headlights, and id still suggest adding hyrdolic lift to the car, its a low car and long some driveways to places u may enter may be at a steeper incline then otheres, u you dont want ur back or front end to bottom out

RE: why can't you make a batmobile?

The car is so long Drew, that if there is a diffence in the road (dip, bump, dead joker fish, etc.) the car will beach itself. Not pleasant. Plus, the nose end of the car sticks out so far that it will crack off before the tires have a chance to hit the speedbumps. This is no conventional car. My first thoughts were: well, I live in Southern California, and we have low riders all over the place! But no, they are nothing alike. Sg1Star has the right idea with the hydro lift package. It should prevent any mishaps when driving those uneven roads.

Are the cars really this huge?

RE: why can't you make a batmobile?

Yes, they really are that big. I think TRIX got the Batmobile contract after Jay Ohrberg (sp?) lost it awhile back.

RE: why can't you make a batmobile?

most people undestamite the size of the car, its big and small, its big on the outside, but the cockpit is small. the car is long and wide, almost 8 feet wide almost 22 fet long and only clost to 4 foot high, most highway roads are like 12 feet wide thats 2 foot clearance on each side, and workzones are usly less room, lucky to get a foot clearnce there, everyone thinks building the batmobile is the hard part, nope, its driving it, if ur gonna build a full scale bamtobile and have it be street legal i suggest 3 things, 1 if u get scared by trucks that look like they come to close to u when the pass u on the road, dont drive a batmobile, 2, if u dont like driving in work zones, dont drive a batmobile. and 3, be a damn good driver. otherwise if u really want a batmobile i dont suggest building a 1:1 batmobile insted just build a car around a exisitng car body like the one china guy is doing. its a exclent idea for thouse who cant handle a full scale.

RE: why can't you make a batmobile?

I heard that there are replicas made without the sliding canopy.
Much like the ugly Toy Biz 1989 batmobile or like the Roadster from B&R movie.
I guess that would make driving the monster a little easier.

RE: why can't you make a batmobile?

Love all this info I'm getting from you guys.

Personally, I couldn't change the car too much to make it street legal.
Just the bare minimum to add headlights, indicators, etc.

I like the idea of a neon afterburner, pop up wing mirrors & headlights, with a rear view camera shown on a monitor in the cockpit. The reg would have to be mounted front & back to keep it on the right side of the law.

Any ideas for the coolest reg plate?

BAT89 ?

All these old threads are confusing me. I keep reading them and wondering why some of the old members would ask these questions. Well, anyway, I'll go back to my "silent trolling".
