How practical is the batmobile(in movie)

I'm discussing the practicality of the batmobile in the movie realm.

My serious biff with the movie was the coccoon.
I mean how freaking retarded was that?
For one thing the shield just happen to appear out of nowhere and cover the entire car.
But what for? The car was already bullet proof so what does this extra shield do?
If it was supposed to offer more protection with more heavy plate, then why not coat the car with the coccoon material in the first place?
It's not like coccoon being hidden help reduce the weight of the shield material?

What do you guys think?

i think it was mainly for looks, but if i had to guess a pratical reason for it, id say so no one can mess with his car, example take in batman returns, they remove the caccone to mess with the systems in his car. having it there, if they dident have the codes, they could not have done anything to it.

The Keaton mobile has tons of illogical stuff in it.

1. How can the wheels enter their way in the center body (in the missile mode) when there's a turbine in there?

2. Where does the components of the shield mode come from?

Although I think it's more convincing for it to escape the cop cars by entering a narrow alley than the stealth mode used by the tumbler in batman begins.

The Car is real and everything on it is practical! We will have no further argument on it!

well remember gotham city may have this supervilians trying to destroy the nightwarior's gothamcruiser, therefore bullet proof, caccons, and many other gadgets we probably did not see in the movie because of the director's concept of non necesary.
but actually if i were a villian in gotham city i'd have build high bumps on the streets i was about to make my things hahaha then batman's gothamcruiser could never get me

It's all about the car, chicks just love it!
