RE: perspective Cause the main reason ,is for the do it yourselfers, why pay someone to do it ,if you can do it yourself plus the doner vehicle comes with extra goodies the tube chassis dont come with nada. suspension brakes everything you need is there + the motor and tranny.So what if you have to take the doner apart,thats the whole fun of it. plus you know more about the quality and what you have in it ,instead of someone else building it, and you not knowing the quality of the work, and besides you would have no one else to blame but yourself.

RE: perspective Tim , if your building your own great and I know you have the skills to do so, but I'm talkin about the below average person with no skills who does not know how to design a tube frame or have that much welding knowledge, to go to that extent, . the old addage K.I.S.S (keep it simple stup&#). Just make it as easy as possible

RE: perspective Actually, I don't have the talent, or at least not the experience. That's part of the fun for me though, learning how to do all this crap. That is why I am sticking to go-carts for now. Kids make great test pilots. |

RE: perspective But like I said thats the fun part, crackin out your snap-on or craftsman tools, using tablesaws, bandsaws, airtools the whole nine, working with a nice coors or corona beer, TV or radio on in the corner. the shop or garage nice and toasty on a winters day, or open on a sunny day, with a couple of friends eye googling ya as ( damn he knows what hes doing) kinda look. And hopefully your old lady either joining in helping ya or just stayin the heck away, know what I mean.

RE: perspective I can put my hand to pretty much any body work challenge but I don't know anything bout Chassis building and even if i did, i'd need the exact plans of the chassis which i don't have. Hmmmmmm

RE: perspective Me garage will be finished in a couple of weeks so i'll be able to get started then chassis..BODY.... and all the rest but i really have no clue of chassis fabrication. I'm not afraid to give it a go but do you guys think if I had a body to work off it'd make things easier??? Hmmmmmm

RE: perspective That's the response I knew I would get.I'm not going to let my cousin Ray weld me together a chassis, I'm going to a place that all they do is build these things. As for the measurements, I am supplying them with all the dimensions, angles and everything else. I'm not showing them a picture of the thing and going, here make it just like that. I too love to get right in there and get dirty. I just realize when something is out of my realm of expertise and if I ever want a working replica, better turn that part of the build over to some professionals. I was bit by the build craze about 4 years ago, after looking thru hot rod magazine after magazine decided to restore a 1948 Ford F-1. I bought it for $900.00 towed it home and started turning wrenches. I forgot to mention I never even changed my own oil before. I just knew I wanted to build something. Sadly the build was cut short, the garage I was working on was my grandmother's and after suffering a stroke, they put her in a home and sold her house. There went my project, I had it totally stripped, everything sandblasted and was working on the engine. I wound up selling it in 2 pieces on e-bay, somebody got the chassis, somebody else the body. Which brings us to the present, only after a lot of research and asking questions, which is why I am on this site in the first place will I start to build my tumbler.Thank you gentlemen for your time and your know how. Now who here can tell me what kind of truck axle was used on tumbler. This is my third time with this same question.

RE: perspective Dee, just put all four wheels and tires in place on the garage floor, lay a ladder down the middle on some buckets and then add stuff to attach the wheels. That may be a little too technical but that's pretty much how the pros do it, right?

RE: perspective my chassie is 110 inch wb so i will have to add about 31 to it but in the picture right behind the front wheel there is a good place just add a piece of 2x3 tube and a piece round tube
