I had a neet idea for a new design so I started out trying to figure in strength & weight for the kart and decided to use 1"x1"x.095 squair tubing.

I went down and got 50 feet of it and some 3/4 ID DOM, 1"x1/4" flatstock (5 feet), and 1 1/4"x1 1/4 x.095 squair tubing ( 10 ft). the rest I had left over from the build of the T-kart.

I got home and started on the swing arms. (thats what I call them)

it is hard to see in these pics. but I had to drill 5/8 holes in the one end before I welded them, they are for their pivit.

then had to figure in the heighth of the kart and angle of the arms.

Then start to play around with the size in relation to where I would be sitting. These rear tires are just temp.

post more latter.

so once I got that idea down I went and cut the pieces for the frame. Those sharp angles on the middle pieces were a pain.

then drilled the holes for the bolts that will act like the pivits for the arms and washed all the parts ...

let it all dry and welded them together. then placed the arms on to make sure it all fit ok....

the arms and frame have enough space between them to place 1/8 nylon washers  so the arm doesn't rub on the frame where the pivit is.

Then went to the pivit for the rear and mid, I decided to use the same idea that I used on the arms for the t-kart.

I used the long tube to hold the pieces in place/even so I could weld them in place.

the next picture that I took didnt turn out but it was of the 3/4 solid rods welded on and what it looked like when that section was done.

After that I started to work on the rear.

cut the small piece of 2" tubing for both sides and welded ...

then welded the rest of the rear and then placed the axle on ... temp.

so what do you guys think of this weird design so far ??

I then started to work on the spindle brackets that go on the ends of the arms.

Made from 1" x 1/4 flat stock ...

then welded them on ... I set them with a 10 deg. caster, no camber because of the way the arm will be flexing up and down when driven ... implamenting a camber would probobly be useless.

The spindles that you see in the next pic. are from the T-kart.

You can see that I didnt center the bracket... this gives the kart a little more clearence from the ground ...

then I started working on the arches that will act as supports for the shocks.

Then I made the brackets and placed the shocks on the front arms.

dr

Then figured in the distance of the rear shocks in relation the the back support, that I also placed on the frame. then welded a cross bar onto the rear.

So after getting that done I started working on the brackets/mounts for the rear shocks ...

found a nice seat for it, looks weird, but its comfertable. these seats are used alot in small fishing boats ... not mounted yet.

then started working on the front bumper thingy that will slide onto the extention in front.

drilled a hole strate through for the quick release pin and put it on...

Then started working on the seat, all I did was I took a piece of sheet metal and some scrap and welded it at an angle.

Then I placed on the rear tires ... this set-up (left & right) are the front and rear tires for the clasic minibikes we all remember.

I designed it thes way because I implamented the ackermen into them....

next ...the tie rods.
