Hey guys,
I was really spending tonight looking at custom cars and how they build them. And it just got me to thinking. This may be a stupid question, but everyone here has always been so nice to me. haha So, Ill ask you guys anyway.
Is there any single vehicle made that was really close to being the correct length and width as the 89 Batmobile? And if so, why isn't it a bit easier to just get a generic shell made for those vehicles? It wouldn't be an exact replica, but couldn't there be a 89 replica that could be done for under 20,000 grand?
Maybe this seems like a stupid question, but it really just got me to wondering if it was POSSIBLE, yet not probable??? I don't know. I know NOTHING about building cars. hahaha
Just humor me, can we discuss the possibility? Is it possible?
And how about a follow up question. If it isn't possible, is there ANY way to do it? Make a less expensive, if slightly less accurate, 89 Keaton replica?
That would be my goal, in the end. Because my wife and I don't have the 100,000 dollars. Not on a Youth Minister's salary!!!!
Thanks for humoring me!
God Bless,
--Chuck

| Hey Chuck, i personally dont have the cash lying around to purchase one of these awesome kits, so i have dubbed to build it myself, hoping that it will save me money. BUT, say it isnt much cheaper to build it myself as it is to buy just the kit, this way i can put cash towards the car when i have it, and when i dont have it, it just sits . I kinda figured that would be the best alternative for me when I get ready for the full size version. I think it was discussed somewhere else on this site that a new dodge ext. cab lwb duelly was actually longer, and wider than the batmobile, but thats a truck, not a car frame to work with. As far as cars go, an '87 caddy comes close to the call, but thats as far as i see. I'm sure there are others that are close within the specs of the 89' OH, no joke, my '87 Pontiac Safari Station Wagon measures only TWO FEET shorter than the batmobile, and im pretty sure if you give a foot of that to wing overhang, the frame only measures one foot short of the '89 . Perhaps that could be an option for ya . Big bulky station wagons like that are not really accepted as gas sippers now-a-days, especially since mine gets 11-13 miles to the gallon. So you should be able to find one pretty cheap. .

| Some of the trucks are very close, but the problem you run into is suspension and engine require a lot of modification. You still have to cut the frame and either shorten or legnthen it. The car that has worked best for most of us is the Chevrolet Caprice Classic 1982 thru 1996 is a good base car or the older Chevrolet Impala the original car is based on a 1969 Impala. These cars require the least amount of modification to mount the kit on. One builder built his own body that was based on an Opel GT. If you build your own body you will most likely spend the same amount of money as if you bought a kit.
