So it looks like WB is doing a little shake down on 66 builders.
People are paranoid, but I personally think it is a smear campaign from George Barris.

I've seen him write down the names of all the batmobile owners, etc. I think he's spreading rumors, but wanted to get some other thoughts/opinions.

I don't have a batmobile, but I have a remote R2-D2

No it's for real WB & DC have their lawyers after some of the builders. They are serious about copyrights infringement.

I never really understood WB or any company with these replica cars. What are the laws on this? I can understand if they get pissed from someone making money off their replica for advertising or what not but do these copyright laws apply to someone that builds a replica for their own enjoyment and uses it as there daily driver?

First of all WB/DC can not stop you from building a Batmobile, and they can not take your Batmobile. They can stop you from selling the Batmobile if you are dong a mass production, however, only if you use the word Batmobile and or use copywrite words or logos.

So you’re saying I could mass produce the Tumbler just as long as I call it something else and don’t have any batman logos on it? Couldn’t the car the way it looks be copyrighted as an image thus using the image without permission?

No you can't mass produce and sell any Batmobile to the general public without having some legal issues, but you can build one for yourself. I am having my atty look into what can or can not be done with regards to building a Batmobile for other people. I do know you can not use the word Batmobile and can not use the exact bat design on the 66 Batmobile. I should know more soon. I'm sure a lot of builders here have dealt with this issue more than me and hopefully they will share what they know.
