agreed. That would be very cool. I just pictured it...although I'd have to find a golf cart rear and re-think my axle and wheels. I'm staying on the current path for now. WHat's good about all this is that I'm planning to make it customizable later..as in the rear swing arm, shock, axle and wheels will be bolted on...kinda like a 4-link hook up. So if I want to add or change anything I will. I just am eager to get the this thing rolling!!!

OK I've been thinking about your reverse deliema for your mini Tumbler.......gas engines initially used the rotating mass of the flywheel to keep the engines running. With the introduction of automatic transmissions they realized the rotating mass of the torque converters could be used instead of a heavy flywheel and the flywheel was replaced with the flexplate...The flexplate is a lightweight steel wheel attached to the torque converter with teeth all around for the starter to engage with. I think you could buy a flex plate and weld it directly to the output shaft of your engine. Then you could mount a standard starter in a reverse position to the flexplate....  when you drive through the normal forward gears it would not interfere with the operation of the vehicle. But when you wanted to back up you simply push a starter button that causes the solenoid on the starter to engage the gear to the flex plate and move the vehicle backward. Since the vehicle is so much lighter than a car it could easily move your vehicle backward.....I have a used Chevy starter you are more than welcome to then simply buying a Chevy flexplate is like $50......If you need a drawing just let me know........Just a humble suggestion.....BWD

Dave that sounds like a definite plan. hold on to that starter. At this time my money is going elsewhere, namely one of our Dogs medical bill....so I will be again delaying the purchase of that Honda engine. Definitely something I want to use, either the 620 or the 610. in any case the delay doesn't stop me from tinkering with what I have.

So i decided to widen the front stance a bit. before:

Also, out of complete sheer bordem, not having the loot right now to progress and a desire to get this thing moving so I can experience the steering and turning, I took the backend of a no-longer used 8HP Briggs and Stratton Dingo Go Kart and attached it to the back. With this type of engine placement (up and between the wheels instead of in front of the wheels like I want to do with the honda) I have much more seating and leg room for my 6foot body. however, it IS only 8HP and i doubt it will move this thing with the force i want it to. I really just want to get it rolling to feel the steering. So for now i MacGyvered the frame to this gokart engine - again, only Temporary...

the gokart is i don't know how old...bought used...nothing is straight on this thing...lots of bent tubes, but not to the point of breaking...however in this pic it's my camera that's slightly tilted...but you can still see how old and used the gokart's frame is
