I assume since the normal view of the turbine is a downward one, that it looked more streamlines to have the heads showing and not the nuts. So when you look at the front you see the heads on the top and on the bottom.

As a jet engine mechanic, there are requirements for orienting bolt heads so they face upward. So in the case of a nut coming loose the bolt itself will theoretically stay put. So an engine spinning at 15,000 rpms, its less likely to come apart but who’s to say!

Now the picture shown seems like the way it should be done by industry standard. But I do not know for sure as for this particular jet engines design.

Kevin, what powerplants have you worked?

What about Jack?

I myself work on GE F101 engines from the B-1. They are old but very effective. The first in the family line of GE's "common core" engines.

J79GE-15 on F-4 E,D,G Wild Weasel

F117A & F-16 GE and PW the PW were a shit engine.

During Desert Storm we changed 2.5 engines a day over a seven month period.
