So here's what i have to do...

maybe weld this to the shaft

The create some kind of gear box with the shaft sticking out. may have to extended the shaft to fit the tourqe converter...although it looks long enough

and hey T-Man talked about backing up the rear (reminds me of a song)...well it's not 8 inches back but i did move it some.

and....got my new front tires.

the tires are smaller in diameter and are not as wide. Yamaha blaster front tires - 21x7x10......my new tires- 20.5x6x10). I actually have a bit better turning radius.

so with the engine, gears and axle in place....looks like i'll need a longer shaft coming off the gears.

Hey Conrad, hope you don't mind me chimming in. Typically for maximum strength you want the lower connecting links on a four link suspension to run perpendicular to the axle since this is where the most stress to the suspension is placed during acceleration. The upper links should be diagonal to the axle and try to set the hiem joint as far outward on the axle as possible. This prevents the side to side movement to occur on the axle and yet lets the axle fully articulate....BWD

Mind you chiming in? Nonsense!

I will make it as close as possible to that exact positioning.

Big Wave...you're an excellent example of why i love this site. I get advice from the man behind the Rumble!

so here's more bracing and support for the motor mount area. Right below this area will be where the gears are. the "Gear Box" will have to be built right under here to protect the gears from debris. (as posted earliler)

so as i showed earlier these gears sit underneath.

We're going tig weld the top vertical gear right onto the shaft of the engine and fabricate a longer shaft for the horizontal gears. the current shaft isn't long enough and doesn't line up with the rear transmission shaft

I dropped the motor off at Joe's yesterday. The gear won't welded DIRECTLY to the shaft. He's actually going to make it so that if the gear brakes it can be replaced easily. Maybe use some kind of locking spline or something? We'll see what he comes up with. I hope to have the engine back by the end of this weekend. Next week I'll be grinding the globs of weld bead down so i can put a floor on and also will work on mounting the engine and start thinking out the horizontal gears and shaft.

After all that on July 4th weekend we'll be doing (and hopefully completing) the rear axle 4 link setup.
