Picked up the axle today

Still going back for cables and things i need for shifting from forward to reverse....looking at the width of this thing makes me wonder if I should go Dually...anyways I'm seeing a local fabricator to help me with the round tube bending for the upper cage and four link setup for this axle.

wow...that thing is a beast ..well it looks like it from the pictures. Is that the same one that you have posted earlyer in your post it looks differant....clean it up and take that hub off (plate that covers the gears) and go have it nickel plated.

I listed you and terry as a favorate on my videos so you guys should be getting a few more hits.

Yeah T it's different axle. I showed the guy at the golf cart shop those pics of the purple hooked up golf cart. he mentioned that the axle used in that one was different from the one he was going to give me at first. when i told him about the power i wanted to use (the Honda V-Twin in the purple cart pictures) he said i should use the same axle. he said it was stronger and gave it to me for the same price. speaking of motors...

so yes I'm getting round tubing tomorrow and having it bent up for fitting and welding over the weekend. I also have the 14HP vertical B&S. here are the gears that will convert vertical to horizontal they came today:

I'm liking the teeth - they look good. i now have to figure out how to build a housing or mount for this. that will all come later when i finish the 4 link rear and tubing. When i opened up the box and put this thing together, i began to know what it feels like to be a "Gear Head"...Cooool...

another update...since i'm about to do the rear I realized i need to have an idea for how the axle and wheels will sit as far as height goes. so I had to get my tires and wheels. so I went ahead and ordered only 2 29.5" Swamp Lites and 2 12" steel rims. 2 places told me that those tires (29.5/10/12) would fit on a 12x7 rim. the Alloy rims are great...but I'm not down with welding aluminum. I love how Terry fabricated something to create dually's. I was going to BUY an alternative but I think i'd rather try the fab option so i wanted to get a steel wheel. stronger anyway.

ITP Black Delta Steel

will definitely endup using 4 wheels and tires but for now working with 2 of each (as per my wallet). while I have the pair i'll be mulling over how to make 'em dually's.

Hey BWD...the budget for this is small...believe it or not i'm at about 900 bucks over a year. I realize for the street, full sized vehicle it will be quite an investment in money and more so, in time.  I think you know I've already started slowly getting the parts i need for a full sized rolling chassis...and because you said it....i can say I'm officially a gear head! hehehe

T-Man....i needed a way to make the vertical shaft change to horizontal. Outboard motors do this...so i looked on ebay for an outboard motor. while i was finding alot of used motors i thought "i'm going to tear it apart and only use the lower gears anyway...". so I did a search for "outboard lower gear" on eBay and found the gears from a guy in Canada. They're from a 30HP motor and cost me 70 bucks after shipping. the full outboard motors (more than 14HP) were over 100 bucks before shipping so i think i did ok.
