Steering time.

So i'm finding that I couldn't make the brackets the way i wanted...I just LOVE the way T's turning brackets look...I have to make mine much smaller as my steering controls are different: Remember that my front wheel hubs are off of a Yamaha Blaster Quad...so the steering "knuckle" or "lever" is positioned differently from a typical go kart.

My wood arms were to small so I went for more length. using scrap metal - coming in very handy cause i haven't bought any steel for a long time. Just alot of grinding cleanup. here's the beginning of my steering -

Left and Right Sides

Hard as heck to get under there with the MIG gun. I can't wait to see how I'll do with welding the brackets (next Post) onto the rods...the gun can barely fit in between the small plates...maybe I'll just do the outsides then? we'll see.

This will be the idea...I think I'm going to have problems because the rod end on my turning arm and the Wheel hub turning mount don't line up straight...because of how everything is positioned (R&P assembly, vehicle arms) my turning rods come underneath the arms and out on an ANGLE. I have to make some kind of connection that is bent to compensate for not being lined up. I THINK the original has a bent steering connector for that same reason. I'm gonna try my best.

My rod ends come in tomorrow so hopefully by this weekend, this thing will be steering. I want to finish the steering cause the next phase will be the roll cage assembly and the Golf cart rear. I'm going for a Four-Link style rear. (which was supposed to begin in May so I'm ahead of schedule a bit!!)

those joints better come in tomorrow!!!

I like want your doing making the front end original. Thought of doing that, but don't want to cut up the new go kart. How did you know I was going to paint it next! Good guess!! While were talking about it, I am having a problem picking what color of black to paint it. What I have is flat black, semi black or undercoat black. Do you know what the original color is on the tumbler?

4Real....i think it's some kind of Flat Black. nice and dull but very Dark.

While waiting for my joints to come in last night I started to shape my brackets more - cause T's look so frikin awesome to me. Again, they're kinda small so I didn't want to shave em down to much so as to weaken them.

I'm learning so much on this site. TMan layed out his brackets and I'm basically doing the same thing...just a tad smaller. I then went to see how the heck I was going to weld a support piece of tubing in between these brackets. The welding gun can barely fit in between, i thought...how am I going to weld that? Then I looked again at T's brackets and then Heard a voice say "Duh". Dril another hole that's the size (slightly larger) than the tubing and weld at the top of the hole. Oh...Duh. Sometimes I feel pretty stupid but then am happy when I put 2 and 2 together.

Here's the Brackets fitted on a steering rod. The center hole on the brackets were drilled and the Joint in the picture is from one of the tie rods from the quad. The Chromolly ends are coming in today.

Masterman...by then it better run on water or use a Mr. Fusion and run on garbage. Would love to see someone make an electric one...probably better for the 89 fiberglass car rather than a tank like the Tumbler.

Good Luck!!
