I've not seen any differences in the actual panels, but yes there were several differences in the add-on parts.  Since the panels were fiberglass I don't see how they could be different.  Had they been actual metal I could see it.

The car you saw was the #5 which is the same one I saw at WB.

Hi Bob,

Just checked out your thread.. looks like a nice little engine you have there.  I've been figuring on going with a 5.0L V8 Mustang engine mated to a F-150 2WD Transmission to handle the torque needed for those big ol rear tires

Just checked the mail and found this waiting for me too

I swear, when I look at some of the close up pictures, it looks like some of the parts are made out of plywood.. There are distinct wood patterns like you would see when looking at the end of a piece of plywood.  Maybe there were just edges that were not given love and attention before molding.

For example:

Aww, anyone can see, it's the light switch!

Does anyone know where to get them (Without buying the whole aircraft!)

Those cannon plugs or amphenol electrical connectors can be found on all the old GMC/MCI coaches/buses as well there is a company called Cardinal or Crown electronics in Calgary that sell them. But if you can find an old GMC bus at you local wreckers collect them up and grab the old steering shaft and angle drive's while your at it you can use them for your steering components and save a few bucks.

right jack, most of the body would not be different. but the add-ons as you say are all placed slightly different depending on the car, and some parts are on, some are not.

There's also things like seam edges, triming, and subtle shifting in body part molds, just from doing this by hand, as opposed to a Major car co. assembly line type thing. It's all gona vary on such fine details. My rear posts should have been about 1/2" closer to my rear gas caps, and even though I was aware of it, somehow they ended up farther back than it was supposed to be. My guess is that if each body part was off by even an 1/8" that from the front most body panel,  to the back gas cap, it adds up. cumlative error maybe?

If I feel it's all that worth it, at some point I will go over my entire car from front to back tweaking any differences from one of the original cars. I'm not sure it is, it's so close. Wait til' you get to the hatch area, how it changes pitch from the front to the back, and how it corelates to the body underneath. Not an area that can be scanned. The back half of the car is the worst. getting all that stuff right, in proportion,

Just remember if you stick a monster engine in this thing you will be eating up some major space. I could've have gone that route, but want to be able to have all the sense of the interior on film. So from the U joint at the back axel, to the front of my engine is 6'. If I had gone bigger, I would without a doubt, had to flip the engine in reverse and stick a transfer case in, which would have meant goodbye to making the interior look like much beyond the interior of a circle track car. It's just whatever you can do to get it to be what you want it to be. Looks good so far. get ready for a boatload of work ahead. A boatload. There are over one hundred individual parts inside the gold hoop of the afterburner. This car is never ending. And beneath all these awkward body parts, are tons of metal, and stuff to hold it all together, and keep it on solid. Tons of rod-end joints, and endless big, and small hex screws bolts. etc.. this is why whenever someone asks to see what I have underneath, I can't, because just stripping it down even partially would be such a major undertaking without a crew to help.

Very true but again I don't see how it could be missing facets.  Probably just lighten or camera angle.  I'm still going through 1,200 photos to see.

Bob I think when people ask to see the under side they actually mean where the engine and interior will be.  A simple shot from the rear that would show how you did you chassis and all that metal that supports everything.  In most of your pictures the light is coming through the glass you can see a hint of tubing.  It's probably a hollow cave now but we all know it will be real nice when finished.

Hi Bob,

So you are actually running your engine configuration where the engine is pointing to the front and the transmission is going to the rear??  Instead of running the engine like they did on the movie cars where they used a v-drive to reverse the driveshaft?

I'm planning on making my tumbler open up like a gull-wing instead of climbing in through the hatch.  That should give me some more room to get inside instead of trying to climb in over the transmission/driveshaft tunnel.

Also will make it easier when I get endlessly pulled over by the cops

That will be a major challenge finding the right body lines to use to define the doors

Hey Neighbor to the North,

I am located in the Buffalo, NY area. I have been on this sight for awhile. On and off. I just finished gutting my house and redoing it all(total time 1 year, many scrathces cuts nicks). Top to bottom. That gives me the go ahead to start on the garage and possibly extended garage to start on "my" project.

Question: Without sounding like a leach or parasite , I was wondering how one could somehow see /view/ print your templates for the tumbler ? Is there a point where I have to become a advanced member or prove that I do want to build it.  I am not sure. I like the way you  are doing your tumbler and I feel I could build the body mostly myself and then get some help on the chassis , rollcage and transmission and the front steering. So let me know OK.

Thanks

Tom

Hi Tom,

The templates and 3D model were entirely created by Shaggy here on the board.  Basically to get acess to his model you need to be able to get to the protected area of the site and the link for the file is there.  That is entirely up to the site admins to make sure that those who are allowed in that area are commited to contributing as much to the board as what they gain.

Once you hit that point, then I'm sure Shaggy would be willing to talk to you about the possibility of getting some scaled templates for your project.

Tim
