I need to go see my third viewing. i saw it on Imax for the 2nd time and the Imax filmed sequences are amazing but the fight scenes are hard to follow.

and I've settled on a name for my bridging vehicle. I liked the name "Thunder" but BWD added "Dark". so that's it...."Dark Thunder".

the smaller one is called "Storm".  Thanks BWave!

Oh and seriously on a side note, there are more Bats around my yard lately.  I've lived here for 10 years and I've always seen one or two. but lately there numbers are increasing.

do they know what i'm thinking?

Will be on vacation the week after Labor Day... strategically planned for when the kids go back to school for a quiet week at home! Will hopefully be working on and starting Thunder's lower chassis at the local shop. With the exception of the tires and some linkage, I'm pretty much have everything I need for the rear...which is good for sizing up what is turning out to be full scale. I know I've blurted out time frames and target completion dates in the past. Now I've learned to not do so as things take longer than expected. Especially when resources are low (not just money, but time). The fact that i'm beginning to take the smaller model a bit more serious adds to the length of time it takes to accomplish things. However with the time there comes opportunities. I've already benefited from waiting and being patient. I'm learning more every day.

Update.....

after a discussion with the pool guy and feeling the sheer weight of the front, I'm going with TWO shocks for each arm instead of ONE. They'll be mounted exactly like the original. Here are the mounting brackets traced out on a piece of 3/16 steel. Hoping to use a plasma cutter for these.

And Since I'm going for 2 on each side, I reenforced the legs.

A-Arms

.......

big wave dave (8/8/2008)
Those upper and lower control arms are made with the idea that they are going to move and absorb the shock of landing....If you weld them ridgid I feel they will be a weak point in the suspension

.....Duly noted.

new Laeger Ball joints

Only when i first tacked these and monted the wheel, the turning was off. That's because of the slant of the mounting bar I made. Will have to straighten it out.

Conrad, the quality and craftsmanship is unbelieavable!!!   I do have a question tho, noticing the distance the tire has from the control arm, are you gonna have adequate steer?   It appears (judging by the picture now) that you can turn the wheel only 2 inches before it binds up against the control arm.

Just curious

The difference between the A-Arms and what I made is about 1/2 inch. You're spot on, it's a little more than 3 inches.  I would have to move the wheels closer together to get more of a turining radius - but then my front nose will be in the way of turning. I was considering not puting a nose on, but no way...i have to. so the wheels are in about 1/2 closer than they were before...Should be enough to turn...if not I should be able to bring it back out without "re-inventing the Wheel" - pun intended.

Oh...and thanks for the compliments...I'm no where NEAR some of the builders I've seen on this site...I'm still a Rookie and learning every day. There are plenty of mistakes on this little guy, but mistakes show me the light..to look ahead and do better.
