Hey MT35, Sorry to hear about your stress. I was in a very similar situation when I had my own contracting business. I had guys working for me, client's taking my time and my family definitely being neglected. I had an anxiety attack in the insulation department at Home Base. When the paramendics revived me I thought I had a heart attack. After finding out my heart was fine but I was stressed to the max I went to talk to a therapist. I learned you can only do what you can do. And as much as you can do is "good enough".... I learned to recognize what was within my control and what was outside my control. Those things that I couldn't control [which is a lot in life] I learned to let it go... It was extremely hard to do this but it is necessary to living a happy life.

Be there for your wife and future child....Do your work with full attention but when it 5:00 go home and leave your work at work. Its no good to be physically with your family but your mind is at work. Your work will always be there. Apologize to your sister even if you were right and learn to lower your expectations of friends and family. Many times they let us down because we think they should be this way or that. Families are there when we are born and there when we die. You may never had gotten in a fight if you did not have this stress. This stress was given to you by your work, house payments, family expectations and wife's sickness. Its like a present given to you but if you refuse the present[stress] who does it belong to?

Listen to good music, work on projects you love and give love to those that love you. Control the things you can and let those things you can't control go....Let them go.....my humble suggestion from a friend that cares about you and your family...Big Wave Dave

Big Wave, i cant tell you how good that made me feel, reading what you wrote.   And yeah, its all true, i should leave work at home, and am taking your advice, im doing just what i can, and in between process jobs i am working on designing my wifes 1963 pick-up's interior, THAT in itself makes me feel good.  And i turned myself some conforting music right now at work.

It helps, all of it, and i thank you for ALL your kind words.

Even the words "it", "they" and "has".   Tho they arent kind, nor are they rude words, i thank them too.   (sorry, corny humor)

Ok, update, i had a few hours of work done last night, i smoothed things out, layed a new coat of poly on and started raisng the driver side headlight up, its still not finished, so it looks rough on that side.   i cut out the louvers on the rear fender right behind the side intakes.   Im not going to Chilton County this weekend (like i do every weekend to work on my OTHER projects) so i think whilst i stay home this weekend it would be a perfect opportunity for me to finish this thing up and get ready to start a mold.

Until then, here are some pictures i took with my friends camera phone.

solid black, passenger side is finished with the acception of the wing, im going to finish the tips out a bit further.

front passenter light area completely done.

side...venty things....done.

Side intake done, i know its more "bubbled" than the original, but i like the way it looks for some reason, so ima keep it that way lol.

Rear vents behind the intake now cut out.

Pretty cool shot i thought showing the smoothness of the top.

the hood, still need to add the center line that the canopy will follow, as well as the vents right in front of the canopy, but that will have to wait until i can get a fine drill bit for my Dremel.  and i know the canopy looks lopsided in the picture, but its an illusion of lights.  (that is...i HOPE its just an illusion )

Rearend, still working on this area.   lotsa curves, needa make sure they are as close as possible from side to side.

the bottom tip is as far out as i want it on the wing, but the top 3 need to be finished out a bit more as well, that way it doesnt give the wing such a "blunt" look.

front shot, still working on the driver side, thats why it looks so....lumpy.

kinda blurry, but i thought this was a pretty cool side shot, especially with the blue-ish highlights.

Thats all for now, hope to have more updates real soon.  Ciao!

Hey MT35 that looks dead on. All you got to do is blow that up big enough for a chassis. It looks like you definitely have the skills to build a larger fiberglass body. In fact before I got in touch with CLTC site I was going to have a guy build one out of fiberglass. The hood and rear tail section were going to be $12,000.So you figure a third of that is materials and 2/3 is labor. That's a lot of labor cost you can save. That Fleetwood Brougham Cadillac  I had was only 8" to short. You could fabricate your Cadillac body to be 8" shorter and yet keep it looking dimensionally correct. Build it. build it, build it.....BWD

And by being 8" shorter it would fit in a standard garage better. I measured my garage once for an 89" and it would fit with only a few inces to spare.

Hey BWD, and Chilebean, thanks for the kind words, and i hope that someday i will be able to build the full version.   But for the meantime my wife insist that i get thru with what projects i have on my plate:

1. 72 Camaro

2. 63 Chevy Pick-up

3. 1935 Chevy 2 door Sedan

4. 84 4x4

5. Lawnmower Train for the kid(s)

6. 72 Corvette (if i can find one for my wife)

7. Batmobile.

I'm thinking to save money and time, I will settle for a somewhat smaller full size version (like the six flags batmobiles) but just as wide as the original 89.   One thing i just cant agree with the kits that are out there is that the rearend is narrow.   I admit it wouldnt take too much effort to fix that and make them wider, but for driveability and parking reasons, i think i would much rather build one from scratch and create the dimensions that are more in my area.   I use to have a 1987 Cadillac Brougham (it was my grandmothers car) MINT CONDITION, and i fell asleep one night on some backroads to chilton county, and at 60 mph, and after about 5 10" tree's, the car finally stopped.  We still have the car, we use it for storage and spare parts.  the frame is badly warped from about the firewall up.  BUT i have the front end of a frame out of a 70's Oldsmobile, maybe i can splice the two together and reinforce the weld areas.

Just idea's years from now.   As far as the 1/6 Batmobile, im hoping to get more done this weekend, then get ready for building a mold.  then pop a fiberglass body from that.  then build a frame, mount the engine, build a transmission, rearend, drive shaft, and all the small nick nacks.

Hey MT35, You my friend have too many projects and your priority is inverted. If you just reverse the list and eliminate all the others then the 89 Batmoble will be number one and only priority.....That's all you have to do see....

Goal for 2008

1. 89 Batmobile

end

Oh, i could just see my wife coming at me with a baseball bat now.   "your giving up on the camaro, WTF? COME HERE!"  *WHAP*

Nah i think i do have a bit much to do, but it keeps me motivated knowing that i ALWAYS have something to do.   And to that statement comes an update.

This weekend was supposed to be the finishing up of the batmobile, in order to start a mold.  As i set the car off the work table onto the floor to clean the table, i second guessed the look of the car, and upon triple measurements found that the car is BADLY off center.   The front end of the car slowly creaps towards the driver side by about a quarter inch, and the driver side set of tires are a half of an inche more forward than the passenger side.

This upset me (not in a "mad" way)

SO....after a long weekend of nothing to work on, (since the batmobile was my priority this weekend) and a LONG debate and discussion with my wife about the situation, we have opted to set this model aside, and go back to the drawing board.   It kind of hurts me to have to start over, but this gives me an oportunity to get it right.

So on that note i will give you all an idea of how i will be re-tackling this project.  Now that im a bit more informed of correct materials to use, i will be using FOAM board for the skeletal system mounted down on a hard surface (perhaps plywood) and each skeletal rib will be no more than 2 inches apart.   In my last attempt I only used 7 ribs spaced greatly apart.....

....that was a mistake, and i've learned well from that one.  And after i add the skeletal system, i will be more careful with the foam  (it was the foam expansion that threw my measurements off in the first place, i just didnt see it)  and i will be using MODELERS CLAY instead of bondo or plaster to do the actual body.   i think that should get me much better results.

I will also be using my Vector skills to digitally draw the shapes for each individual skeletal peice so they will be symetrical from left to right side.

I hope this "well i screwed up bad and now have to start over" error doesnt make anyone mad at me.

I will try to get this project up as soon as possible, AND take more friggin pictures!

That sucks! But the new one should be much better after all you learned from the first one.
