I've seen a lot of cars that have had the doors suicided. I mean they look good on show day,but day to day operation might not be up to par. I've seen a lot of those older Lincolns and its true they can be a little more expensive but they are built like a tank and the suicide doors were factory. I think I'll check into the local Lincoln market and report back. No I'm not going to build "The Car" I'm not, I'm not, I'm not.... Hey wasn't that a 60s Lincoln in the first Matrix movie?....BWD Thanks for looking into it, Dave. Built like a tank, you ain't kidding. All Lincolns built from 1958-1969 were uni-body construction, very durable cars...my '66 weighs about 5000 lbs. Great car to drive, like riding on a cloud Oh, and yes, that was a black '65 Lincoln Continental in The Matrix...I love the overhead shot of them exiting the car, best part of the film Cool video Dee...did ya get a chance to watch the movie yet? A '79 Lincoln sedan is probably built pretty solid, too, right?
I don't think I've ever seen a 60's Lincoln Continental with a chopped roof. Hmmm  Anybody got a picture?
Its funny you mention Chrysler's 300M. The Car was the first thing I thought of when I saw the 300M for the first time. Its too bad they don't offer a coupe version. People love to customize this car but its generally just cosmetic stuff like body kits and paintjobs. I mean, I've never seen one with a chopped roof.

Hope everything went good there...I only wish I lived out West (have I said that before?). ...and Rage....true, the '79 Lincoln is built very solid, drives real nice too...but compared to driving a uni-body car, you can definetly tell the difference. The '79 however is IMO a much more afforable car, tho. Parts are still readily available for it, and the maintainance on the 400 big block is simple. The '66 has a 462, and that engine was only offered (in Lincolns only) in '66 and '67. Parts are much more scarce, and expensive. So I guess if you're ever in the market for buying a classic Lincoln, I'd go with one from the 70's, if you want a good weekend driver...but I think a 60's style Linc is a much nicer car, just harder to maintain. I saw a pic of a '63 with a chopped top once. Looked very cool...I'll try to find it. -Matt

Yeah.. I still see a good number of 1970s Lincolns around, particularly your bodystyle sedan, but 1960s cars with suicide doors are pretty rare. Cadillacs from the 1960s, on the other hand, are relatively common. This is just the Oregon perspective talking.
My sister in Arcata, CA lives next to an apartment that has a suicide door Continental parked next to it. Its a grayish blue and the paint is faded. I didn't get a close enough look -- the complex was laid out in such a way that I could see it 20 feet away through a fence but standing next to it would mean walking around a while to find access to the parking lot it was in. I think its like the second or third one I've seen in person, ever. That was back in August 2007.
In March I was in downtown Grants Pass, Oregon and saw a Lehmann-Peterson Continental limousine. At least, I'm about 95% sure that's what it was. It was dark and I was walking down the street, but the street was fairly well lit. It was a nice warm evening. Really threw me for a loop when I saw it!!  Talk about a rare car!

I've seen a couple of those 300C's customized to look real nice. Great car! It's cool that you got to see an LP Lincoln Limo, I still never seen one first hand. I tried to find the pic of the '63 ChopTop Lincoln, but couldn't find it...here's something I almost bought last year...it's the start of a chopped, suicide, tubbed & shaved Mark III. The guy only wanted $2000 for it, I should have gotten it

Matt, that's an unchopped example sitting next to it, right?
Didn't Barris basically change the entire roof of the car? The part of the C pillar parallel to tbe bumper, that is, the panel area that would be surrounding the rear window, his Car had a 'steeper' incline to it, didn't it? The car in the photo you posted has a more gradual slope to it, right?

I found this Continental, I'm guessing its a Mark III. Not sure what year. I wish the photo showed the chopped roof off better. Its also been lowered.
By the way, there was a Lincoln Mark V coupe in the 1970s, and a Lincoln Mark V sedan in the 1950s, right? And they were two different cars?
