| This is square tubing so it does not need orientation like rectangular tubing. I'm not recommenting you use this because the strength of this frame is in the outside box frame but this shows you proper triangulation....BWD

| Here's a great example of a strong frame easily made for jumping with a V-8 and two passengers. One of Don's past projects...BWD

| Dave, of course i don't mind. And maybe your idea is to start over using round tubing right? those pictures are great thank you and again I certainly don't mind. that's EXACTLY what this site is for, ideas, constructive criticism and comments. great frames...the 89 frame has a "frame in a frame"? interesting. I have read alot on triangulation and how it can greatly rienforce a structure. I do plan on applying that on this but do you think, in some way, round tubing can help my floor? Underneath perhaps? yes, I remember what you once wrote about those continuous pieces. I do plan to do as much as possible with the tubing....I'm concerned about the aliginment though during the bending process...bending a 20 foot tube in more than one place, and in different directions as well as having it lined up and level. I guess I'll need to do this slow and have someone or something hold the long tube as it passes through the bender. we'll see. "one less friend"? ...as Balci used to say, "don't be ridiculous".
...does it come in black?

| Hey Conrad just imagine if you had a 20 foot continuous DOM tubing bent with four corners the v-joint welded. Then you put an x-tubing reinforcement from one inside corner to another. Where do you think it would fail? How could you destroy it? It would be almost impossible. Just a thought...BWD

| Conrad, for multiple bends on one piece of tubing, a couple of magnetic angle finders would be helpfull. What size tubing is that you used? I think square tubing is supposed to be stronger than equivalent round. But I don't know how square compares to round DOM in strenght or price.

| thanks bean. the tubing size is 1 5/8. DOM is pricey cause it's def. stronger. seamless tubing. The guy at the steel shop says everybody building race car get's the Chromolly...or 4130 steel..there's a straight seam down the whole pipe. Good enough for a typical roll cage. these bridging vehicles we're building are pretty big and heavy. In fact, the cop in the movie called it a Tank. I'm guessing the DOM is the best bet...just a pricey one. 20 feet cost me $120 and while it gets cheaper as you order more feet, it's wayyy more than the 24feet of square tubing i got for $75. Although if you're gonna be Tumbling in a Tank... I'm having fun welding the square stuff though. No way are the welds looking like Dave's guy or any other master welder, but I'm learning alot. The fact that I'm using a stick makes it very difficult to get good looking welds. Good looking not for the sake of attraction, but for penetration and strenth.With a stick, I'm constantly moving toward the work piece. it's taken alot of practice, but now I have a good rhythm of movement. Lotts of welds look better than others, but lots more look worse! I'l have pics of my nasties soon. Looking forward to that MIG!

| Hey Chilibean, I hate to point this out but round is much stronger than square. The reason is the curve of the tubing takes the load of weight or pressure and spreads it over the curve. Not only in tubing but even in buildings. The Roman Aqueduct had arches that were able to spread the load of the masonry and water and distribute the weight over the arch. Even the Earth is round to distribute the weight of the atmosphere....OK I made that last one up but really round tubing is stronger than square. Hey Conrad I would have to look back through my bills but I think I had $3500 in DOM tubing.... Its ridiculously expensive and ridiculously strong.....BWD

| Dave, yeah buddy...yikes! I know you're a believer in "You get what you pay for". ok so here's one of the first welds 
too slow and unsteady hand. not consistent movement.
...does it come in black?
