Ha nice...Dave. I never thought about selling anything I build. not a bad idea. Although I appreciate the suggestion, i want to practice with what i will actually be fabricating. Yes pricey, but It's the only way to know what I'll be dealing with for sure...I've called a couple of steel shops and a few are willing to give me some scraps. Exactly what I'll need. there are also a couple of Practice projects in the Welding book I have that I intend to do. thanks again!!

saw your thread...can't wait to see the engine mounted!!

Yeah I thought you would probably say that but hey I had to try.  I've done so many things over and over and as you can see in my build log its cost me in time and money.  But I would just say as you go for it get good penetration on those welds and test them often.BWD

Yes. I will bring my practice pieces to the local shop for the pros to look over and also test for strength. they know what I'm doing (well, they think it's a beefed up sandrail with duallies) and it looks like they're going to be very helpful.

Does anyone know of anyone that has welded a chassis entirely with stick welding?  I seem to see alot of Mig welders out there and then there's others that say TIG is the only way to do it.  Yeah, i only spent 50 bucks for the Lincoln 225 I got, but spent over 20 times that for the circuit run into my garage.  I DO still plan on getting a MIG though...someone said to get one that's "upgradable" to TIG.  MIg, TIG, Stick....it seems there's not only ONE way to do the chassis. is it preference? skill? basically I want to take a CLTC poll:

which method do you guys think is the best ?

This might be pointless info, but my dad extended the frame on a Kenworth about 4 foot by welding the rearend off another deisel in place of the original, and he used a stick, then filed the weld down smooth, then repainted, and it had to bare the loads pulled by the truck, and the amount of frame torque that trucks engine gave.   Like i said, might be pointless as far as helping, but he did use a stick on a Chassis to put a truck together.
