(kids are so awesome when it comes to things like this, THEY are the true motivation as to why i wanted to start my project in the first place, strange, being as im 22, lol im still a child myself )

Awesome Job, cant wait to see some metal slingin' around here and there.  Keep us posteed ^_^

Thanks guys....you're right about the body. I can't avoid it. i have to go for it. though I finally picked up that lincoln AC225 stick welder. Although I'm eager to weld, I must practice...and make sure this thing works....pretty beat up and dented, but if it sparks an arc....I'm good. haven't welded since I was Shagg's age - that 's 15 years ago so I need to get back into the swing of it. So in between going to stores and finding huge pieces of cardboard I'll be practicing my welds. I can see using the sick welding for framing and motor mounting and such, and mig for the body...right experienced welders? we'll see. of to the stores I go...

THANKS FOR THE COMMENTS GUYS...I'M HUMBLED AND MOTIVATED BY YOUR WORDS.

Yep you said it.  Hey hit the Toys R Us and ask them to save you the cardboard they use for the displays at the front of the store near the ceiling.  They change it out every few months and it works great as free template material.

What are you going to make the body panels out of?

K, I'm on it Jack, just posted them this morning ^_^.   Hey Conrad, you said something about the rear axle the other day, have you got that planned out yet?  and i know the drive-line is not in your worries at the moment, but i was curious, i saw this video that Doo-Hee loaded that had a full scale tumbler chassis, and had the engine reversed, against a tranny that protruded into the drivers compartment, into a (what appeared to be, i could be wrong) single inlet/single outlet transfer case, that sent the shaft BACK to the rear axle,  do you plan on configuring yours somewhat the same?   I, personally, would still like to know if the original tumbler(s) were built with the same drive-line aspects, OR did they reverse the engine into a PTO and run the rear axle off a hydrolic system

Exciting stuff, keep up the good work ^_^.

Shagg - yeah, I mentioned I was going to build a model out of it.  But I have thought about it alot. I do believe the OEM engines were reversed and your description seems on point.  Not sure if I'm capable of that engineering but would love to try.  Good 'ol Rusty, who seems very very knowledgeable (not unlike alot of build masters here) posted this great sketch of a reversed setup using a chain to turn the drive shaft.

Again I'm not there yet but am thinking about it.  more and more I'm hearing what Jack and Timwylie said about doing the body to get an idea of sizing...this also applies to the chassis as i work on how to fit a buick or other v6. I've said it a million times, it's scaled smaller but will I have to make it bigger to accommodate the engine and tranny? maybe.

alright, I'm at work and still thinking about this. need to get back into IT/MIS mode. Now what's the name of that server i was trying to ping....V6? Tumbler? Axle? Ugh!

i seriously doubt you will have to do any resizing to accomodate the engine out of a buick,  we have a Buick Century with a 3.0 (? i know its the same size as those 2.8 chevy's) 60 degree engine block, those engines are so narrow they hardly take up much more room than your standard Honda "4-banger" if you will.  I really dont see you having a problem with the power-plant/drive line clearing.    IF I MAY make a suggestion tho, i have a 1984 chevy 4x4, with a cast aluminum transfer case (i think its the F203), just like many 4x4s, when locked in to 4 wheel drive, both drive-shafts are pulling equally, and in the case of the cast ALUMINUM transfer case, its not all "gear to gear" assymbly, its got a chain drive inside of it that goes off the main section pull (the section that runs one side off the tailhousing of the transmission, and the rear drive shaft out the other).  you might be able to just insert one of those, have it locked into 4 wheel drive, and leave the rear u-joint free, both sides will pull no matter if a shaft is out or not.  the cool advantage about this set up would allow you to have a low side and a high side on you speed, at the flick of a lever.

And now that think about it, a GMC Jimmy, or Chevy Blazer (the smaller versions) would have the correct transmission (with overdrive) and transfer case set up.

Sounds like you guys have it all figured out.  Can't wait to see what you make of it.  Keep it up and I'll have to build one.... right Conrad?

Shagg,

Thank you...great pic..you just whipped that up didn't you? The 4x4 idea looks very interesting. and kudos on the engine descriptions too. I really do wish i had a motor and tranny setup as I want to size it up visualize it installed.  I don't mind suggestions AT ALL...the more the merrier and the more options I can mull over. And shagg, if Jack starts one of these...we're done for.   I'm sure you've seen his build posts.

back to work...

well let me see what i can do for you, ill see if i can draw out some dimensions on the block size, and transmission length for you.  ill have the block dimentions later on today, as well as a rough estimate of intake clearance (depending on what you plan on running (carborated w/standard breather, throttle body, tune port fuel injection, etc)
