Sorry for reviving an old thread, but i remember the link in the very first post of this topic had some awesome pictures on the legions of gotham page.

when you click the link, its now gone. Anyone know where these pictures might be found otherwise? It had some great photo's of the '89 being test driven before the glass was in, and other photo's of the car still being sculpted.

I just have pictures and the same link you have. I have tried on many occasions to contact his studio and ask about his influence on the 89 compared to the ruff sketches of Antons. If you listen to Terry Snow he claims himself to have shaped a lot of the looks of the car from the head lights the canopy the tail lights And I am sure John Evans had A Monster Role of the finished product but it would be nice to give credit where credit is do. Was the body all do to Anton ?Someone At Warner Brothers has to have those plans or Keith studios does .

This was comments from Andy Smith of the 89 build team on the subject .
I couldn't really say who had more influence than who, it was a small crew and everyone put their heart and sole into it. Keith worked with another guy whose name I forget......anyone. Their input on the final look of the car, you're right, must not be underestimated.
When I first saw the car it was meant to be 36' long and something like 11' wide, completely impractical. So we drew up an outline of driver engine transmission and all the other parts we needed to fit in and the car was sized around that. So even the fx department played a part in the final look to some degree!! There are fairly strict rules on the ratios of width, length and height and drifting too far from them leads to a fairly odd looking vehicle.
Once the vehicle sculpted it went to John Lovell shop at ProtoCo Mouldings and they sharpened up the lines and made it symmetrical, well almost, one of the rear wings curves slightly more than the other and he couldn't do much about it. We blamed this on the wagging tail trait that the car had just over about 90mph, nothing alarming but a gentle tail wag. We found this out at the test track after shooting there one night, I just had to see what it could do. Couldn't go any faster because the canopy started to lift. As an aside, that canopy was originally designed to be hinged at the rear top edge and lift like a fighter canopy, that's why all the separation lines are the way they are. Then it was decided to make it slide......and you all know the headaches involved in that.
Cheers
Andy
Thanks again MR A for getting Andy on here. Tell him not to be a Stranger.

About 3 years ago I bought a set of plans from E-bay that were said to be made at the Lovell studio as well . If they were doing the casting of the car from the already carved blocks of foam I'm not sure why they would have used these plans plus they look like the Ertl car, this does coroborate Andy's story and here is what the guy I got the plans from had to say.

I worked for accompany called Albatross Models Sets & Effects. That's where I did my apprenticeship.I had just started working there as they were wrapping up the movie. We did lot's of buildings for the 1/6 scale Gotham City. The one where the Batwing slides down the street.I was often up at Pinewood.I have many great memories of that film.I knew the guy who made the original pattern for the Batmobile. Mr Lovell,I heard he died of throat cancer.I had the chance to buy the moulds of the Batmoble but it was way to expensive. It's amazing what is out there if you know where to look.I had a lovely afternoon tea & cake with Peter Eves & his lovely wife.He was the chap who made all the gadgets. The Baterang, the Bat gun, the grappling hook that gets fired from the Batmobile to help it turn around the corner at high speed.I have some photos of it I'll try & find them for you.I rescued tones of blueprints & Batmans chest symbol from a rubbish skip! These things are works of art I have loads on the Batwing interior & all the gadgets on the Batwing. That's how I contacted Mr Boon It had his name on the very best of the drawings I found. How they made the large Batmobile is that the art department drew up on huge pieces of ply at 1/1 scale, the left & right Batmobile Profile. These were stuck on the side of a large block of polystyrene. Then a hot wire was drawn over the ply templates through the the poly' by a guy on either end.A small Batmobile was made to assist them done by a guy called Pedro I think that was his name.Anyway someone stole the 1/6 scale Batmobile.I don't know If it was ever recovered. This car is the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.I couldn't get over the size of the thing.
My plans.
