 Boy, that search feature would ROCK!
Anyway, I cut and pasted a section about wheels and tires, that is below, but does anyone (dave?) know the actual back spacing and size of the wheels used on the original car?
The photo above is the best I could find of the #1 car to see how thick the tires were, and where they sat, because it was jacked up, relative to the axles and car.
On the back 18 inch rims would be HUGE but the back space would define where in the wheel well it was, and if it was flush or not. In theory, a 18 inch rim with a 4" back space would sit on the outside the same as a 15 inch rim with a 1 inch back space, just less rubber and $$$, right?
The six flags cars seem to fill the wheel well right, any idea on those from Trix?
15x10 with 3-inch back spacing in the front?
18 inch rims will not only cost an arm and a leg, the rubber will be serious $$$ as well, but little tires on this car can ruin the look. (and by little I mean monstrous on most everything else!)
Also the older Impalas I thought had a 5 on 4.75 lug pattern?
Here's the cut and paste, so anyone who has rims (pretty short list!)
got any advice to new builders?

Hey Dan, well it's like Kevin said it all depends on the frame you used. Pay close attention to your lug pattern. The older (74 and older) Impalas had a 5 on 5" lug pattern. The newer Caprice and Impalas have a 5 of 4 3/4" pattern (I think). This is important because Centerline does not make the Auto Drag wheel in a 5x5" smaller then 10.50" width.
As far as correctness goes. The car in the pictures that Dan provided have the following set ups:
Front: Mickey Thompson Indy Profile S/S L60-15. As per Mickey Thompson's website that tire would work best on a 7 to 10" rim size.
Rear: Mickey Thompson Sportsman 33x21.50 15LT. As per Mickey Thompson's website that tire would work best on a 15 to 18" rim size.
The Jay replica in Tallahassee used the same front tire but the rear was a bit smaller:
Rear: Mickey Thompson Sportsman 33x19.50 15LT. As per Mickey Thompson's website that tire would work best on a 14 to 16" rim size.
Just and added note the Mickey Thompson Sportsman are a bias tire and require a inner tube. Bias tire are not really a good street tire. They do not respond to water very well.
For The Gothic I chose to use a Hoosier Radial tire for the rear. For rim size I will be using and 15X14 for the rear and a 15x8.5 for the front. I will be using wheel lug adaptors to make the lug pattern 5 on 4 3/4" pattern. As far as back spacing goes I am going to have to re-measure once the body is back on the frame

Hi Nate,
I might be stupid and I don't have a car but, I thought both front & rear rims were 15". They both seem the same size rim on the 1:18 and the AMT 1/25 scale models. The only difference I see, is the back spacing of the tyres and the rim to tread depth & width (rear tyre rim is set deeper and is thicker from rim to tread & wider).:confused
In the UK we size our tyres by the following method
Tread width in Millimetres (eg front 275)
Depth of tyre as a percentage of width (eg 60%)
and then speed rating (65mph/70mph etc)
finally Rim size (eg 15")
Gives you the front tyre as 275/60 R15 (these tyres exist!!!)

Dont have a car, so I don't know how close these wheels would match. I would love to know where to get a good match for the rim & tyres and happily pass on any info should I ever find out.
I feel a trip to Edinburgh coming on....since I now have some idea what to look for on the car thanks to DH and you guys.

| Yes both rims are 15” the rear rims are much wider than the fronts as you can see in the picture. I can’t remember exactly what size the rims are but they were posted here at one time. Your offset and backspacing all depends on what rims you use and the frame you use. Both my rims are 10X15 the backspacing on the rears were one inch and three on the front. But it all depends on the frame you use. I chose the Caprice Classic because the width of the rear wheels was wider than that of my Cadillac; thus I didn’t have to go with an extremely wide rim to fill up the wheel well.

| When I was going to build my 89', I used centerline wheels, they had the bolt pattern just like the original, then I went for the widest Mickey T's I could get in the back. Man, they were cool. Just gave such a powerful look. Like a couple of steam rollers.

What are "centerline wheels" (wheel rims with the hub in the centre of the tyre tread?) are they a brand name or type of rim?
Also does anyone know, are Micky T's road legal as tyres? What are the biggest for an 15" rim?
In short, can ANYONE tell me....
What is the best match in the UK, in terms of a road legal wheel (front & rear) for the 89?

Mr. A, Centerline is the name brand of the wheels without a frame you cannot determine what lug pattern back spacing and offset. You cannot determine what wheel size you need until you have your body sitting on a frame to take the measurements that you need to determine what wheel back spacing you will need. Just running out and buying Centerline Drag wheels will accomplish nothing.
The rear M/T tires are not street legal they are drag race tires.
