Jakc,
do you know why the rear of the canopy is collapsed downwards when the canopy is open for the Kilmer batmobile? The movie shows the actual canopy scooping upwards then sliding forward I think.
here's the reference photo

You guys make me sound like I know something about this car. hee hee Actually the info that Kevin gave you for the tracks and linear bearings is all you really need for the sides. The center is the tricky part. The car that I sent you pictures of just had a piece of flat metal with a curve/bent at the end that a couple of bearings rolled on. What you use for the center track will all depend on your under hood clearance. That Nitro's project he has very limited space so he came up with a really cleaver and functional design that is only around a inch high. I've heard of a garage door track and roller being used but you would need about 3 inches of clearance. Then to make it actually operate you would have to add some type of actuator or drive motor.

Bobby, I’m sorry I really don’t have any firm idea. You may want to ask Nitro to show you his design and Tim also came up with a great concept a while back. Paul says he has a design for the 89, maybe you can buy his idea.

If you use the track and bearing for the side ensure you add a pivot point. This is needed when the front of the canopy lifts up to clear the body to prevent the bearings from binding. This is also why the back of the canopy looks as if it is dipping down. Also the side rails must be perfectly parallel to each other or they will bind.

Here is my over simplified version of the track.

Bobby, I would love to be there with you helping. It's an awesome project and I have no doubt that you will make it work. I wish I could help more. Again please contact Nitro or some of the others. PS I forgot to send you the other pix I will put them in the mail tomorrow. sorry.

Thanks Dee. You know how I feel about pictures, even if I'm the one posting them.

Bobby, just had a great idea. We have a friend who has a Honda Odyssey mini-van. The side doors are remote control and work on a track and cable system. So the system is completely hidden (no actuator to get in the way. You can get a copy of the illustrated parts breakdown at the Honda dealership. This probably goes for any newer mini-van. Just a thought.
