Today, I ran a low resolution PLA test print my latest version of the speaker door. Gotta say - better than the real deal, but then again, back then they had to do everything by hand, whereas today it's just a matter of point n click...

Yep, looks great. Is the screen a separate piece?

Sly,

Yup! I designed it so that the screen could be installed and bonded in from the back side after paint. The 9 and 3 o'clock holes are for bolt through screws to secure the speaker box to the body, while the 11, 1, 5, and 7 o'clock holes get tapped for the installation of short screws to complete out the aesthetic finished look. I'm also working on an alternate design with a slightly domed ABS plastic grill.

If you haven't bought a printer yet, I would suggest the Qidi X-MAX. It will pay for it's self rather quickly...and you will have a blast with it!

So here's the finished (low resolution print quality) PLA speaker box prototype with a coat of primer (no bodywork), screws installed, and the speaker grill installed. I give it a thumbs up for final print on high resolution settings using PETG...

Kevin,

I set mine up at around 7.5" x 4.75".

Printed my "to be installed" version of the steering wheel center cap in black PETG last night. Gave the logo a light sand this morning just to remove most of the printing lines and put it on a wheel for fit checks. If I haven't said it enough, go get a 3D printer - life is so much easier, and your end result is just that much better!

So, this weekend I started designing the infamous Ram Air Turbine (RAT), which acts as the "jet" intake on the front of the car. Needless to say, actual correct RATs are rare, as there are no more Vulcans in scrap yards to raid... There are at least 3 of us on here who have real RATs, but, lets be honest, they are freak'in heavy (even with the governor removed) and really don't make for a great mounted option (just like real side mechanics), though, there are some serious bragging rights to be had if you happen to have one!

I'm designing my 3D printed RAT in major sections, including a multi-sectional housing, disks, blades, nose cone, mounts, drive motor, etc. So far my parts count is up around 66 pieces to be 3D printed... yeah - 66! Everything has been dimensioned off my Vulcan RAT, so it should be pretty damn accurate... Attached are a few "in work" pics of the housing, and "electronically" assembled stator and rotor with all the blades in place. I think I need more printers...
