hey WAZ

"Cost to Weight" to say, is there a direct correlation between material thickness and cost, or are common sizes considerably cheaper (ie, 1/4", 3/8" vs. 5/16" or 17/64" ((for example)) ). Waz

Prices for steel plate vary widely among small quantity steel retailers.

Prices are based mostly on weight for mild steel plate. Current average retail price is 1.oo per pound.
Common Sizes:
1/2" - 4' x 8' sheet size 32 SQFT X 20 LBS per SF =640LBS X 1.oo +600-640.oo
3/8" - 4' x 8' sheet size 32 SQFT X 15 LBS per SF =480LBS X 1.oo =450-480.oo
1/4" - 4' x 8' sheet size 32 SQFT X 10 LBS per SF =320LBS X 1.oo =320.oo
1/8" - 4' x 8' sheet size 32 SQFT X 10 LBS per SF =320LBS X 1.oo =180-200.oo

1/4" seems to be the pricing base line. 3/8 and 1/2 are a little cheaper. 1/8" and below are a little more. vertigo

Motors for Makers: A Guide to Steppers, Servos, and Other Electrical Machines 1st Edition
by Matthew Scarpino Scarpino (Author) 21.99 from Amazon

This is an excellent book for anyone interested in acquiring a working knowledge of the stepper and servo motors
used in CNC machines and other applications, as well as, most other types of electric motors.
It is written in easy to understand language aimed at persons who want to acquire a practical working knowledge of electrical motors without too much jargon and theory.
It is written for persons who use machines, powered and/or controlled with electric motors and/or for others
who are planning to use electric motors in their projects.

It is not a book about how to build motors. vertigo

sly,
"Any progress on your builds this winter brother? Looking forward to getting back at it."

Too many demands for my time the past 4-months, so no real progress.
I guess I had another life after all.
Most demands have been completed so looking forward to get back to working on my Justice League and Tumbler builds by the end of this month. vertigo

Glad to hear man.

Yeah i think most people have a few other things to prioritize and attend to during these times...
Our entire country is on lockdown but im still working as we are part of 'essential services' manufacturing food. So we have no option. But they are very strict and check paperwork daily as you travel...

But looking forward to seeing more updates soon...

hey WAR Machine,
Great to hear from you.
As Ricard Petty (famous stock car racer) once said. "Its not the winning but the racing that's important."
Hope to be back on my builds soon. vertigo

hey nawaz,
Welcome to the forum.
My build is a freehand build. My measurements wouldn't do you much good.
If you are really serious about doing a Tumbler build I would suggest that you PM shaggy about getting a set of plans. vertigo
