Wheel question for you THEMAN. You mentioned using a Hummer rear axle. What's the bolt pattern on that?
I like the Black Rhino Armory rim for the DOJ. It looks military.
I had the opportunity to pick one up cheap. It's 20/12 so it will work for the Baha Claw 46/19.5 r20 I plan to use on the rear.

Those are a great choice... the hummer h2 is 8x165.1 or 8x6.5, and the black rhinos are available in them... they also make this style called the arsenal.
I would go for the 20x9.5 8x165.1 for the front, and if you go for the 20x12 8x165.1 for the rear you can have those two rears widened 8 inches on the outer lip side to get the right look for the claws mounted on them, and to get the width you need for that rear track.
these guys have a great reputation for the widening.

You can also match up chevy/gmc 2500hd front drop spindles and hubs... that way you readily have the wilwood huge front brake kits available to bolt right on for both front and rear.

Thanks for the info, gonna work out great. Got a special deal on that one wheel. Probably have to pay full price for the rest and they aren't cheap. But they certainly have the look we want, imo.

$264-280 for those isn't that bad on price... and then figure about that in additional cost on the rear two to widen as well. That's still a bit under cost for custom 20x20 steel wheels, and custom 3-piece aluminum in the style we need.
You can find used 20x20 plain steel wheels that would need adapters($100 at least) to fit down to reasonable hub bolt patterns. But those are often over $300 per before shipping 100lb apiece wheels to your door. Out in farm country you may be able to snag some agro 20x20 steelies like those more local to you though... just be aware of the extreme weight they'll be and the added stress on suspension design and running gear.
Your widened Armory wheels will still be about half the weight and still about the same cost by the time everything is fitted up.
Then you need to look at the mounting and balancing options... if you have a 3-piece custom wheel, it does make mounting the huge rears easy with just bolting the rim halves together in the tire. Then if you go for something like centramatic dynamic wheel balancers you won't have to rely on a shop to balance them or rebalance as they age and wear. Sometimes initial cost on a better option beats out higher long term costs of ownership.

hey THEMAN,
Thanks for the really useful information on the tires and wheels.
One question on the 20 x 20 wheels.
The Mickey Thompson 46 x 19.5 -20 has a recommended wheel width range between 12-16 inches.
When I was working on my Tumbler wheels I remember reading that using a wheel wider than the recommended width range would result in a stiffer sidewall with a significant reduction in sidewall flex and result in increased vibration and a hard ride.
Do you think using a 20" wide wheel would produce any of these problems with the 46 x 19.5 - 20 tires?
Which do you like best? Armory or Arsenal

vert, that applies somewhat to regular sized tires on passenger cars and trucks... but in tires with such massive sidewalls it isn't as much a factor, but you actually want those minor characteristic changes you refer to for this road going vehicle and the suspension it will ride on. The more important numbers for fitting to wheel width is the actual tire width, at 19.50" this tire is not really stretched at all on a 20" width wheel, and gives us the look on this wheel combo similar to the actual batmobile's.
Here is how this tire looks on a properly wide wheel as I'm recommending...
actual
I prefer the arsenal slightly better... but I am personally courting the custom wheel option, that I will hopefully be able to show an example of what's coming soon.

Both rims look great imo. Personally, I chose the Armory ones because I liked the closed look without the openings the Arsenal has for this car. They both have a nice military style that fits this car.
Another advantage to using those 19.5 Thompsons is that it will save about 4.5 inches of width on both sides compared to the Alliance wheels. Helping keep this car closer to street legal width.

yep, exactly, and since it's 46 tall compared to 51 it keeps the height to width ratio pretty decent for a very similar look. The tires are 5" shorter diameter and the wheels are 2.5" shorter diameter... the ratios work out very well there too.
