Batmobile22,
Haven’t seen any in a while. I do have a set that are very similar looking. Might be time to reverse engineer if no one else steps up to the plate...

Maybe someone has a file or scan that can be replicated or DIY?

Minijokerguy,
I templated up that metal set I have. It was way off being straight and had several different spacings between the vents. I fixed all the geometry errors and recurved the piece so that it can be installed with the vents parallel to the centerline axis of the body. I have also created a router template for cutting the body which will offer a .125 gap around the insert. The insert will black UV resistant ABS secured with 8 secrews. Some fiberglass work will be required to provide a closeout to prevent water getting into the cockpit. Next on the list are fiberglass closeouts with drains and air intakes for AC system.

I had my son-in-law make me a set on his jobs laser cutter. Took a template I bought from BWD years ago and created a computer template. Transferred to the laser cutter, and had perfect grills in about five minutes. Cut mine out of aluminum and plan on recessing into the body. Slowly but surely I’m getting there. I took a three minute video of the process, but be da**ed if I can figure out how to post it!

Hey Dan long time. I was going the same route but my fiberglass guy was really concerned about the aluminum expanding at a faster rate than the fiberglass and it might crack. I ended up using my excellent water jetted pieces as a template. It was a lot of hand work but we cut the oval holes right into the body fiberglass. No seam so no cracks. In hindsight I wish I would have fabricated a rain gutter under the louvers to catch and remove water to a point under the car rather than water just flowing through it. Not really rain but when I washed the car. Just my humble suggestion. BWD

Thanks for the advice Dave. I am considering recessing them on a fiberglass’lip’, possibly secured with molding clips. My thought was the clips would allow for the possible expansion issues. my build may be slow, but I am determined to do the entire project myself, and reach my goal of building a complete car for under 20 G. So far I’m on track, it’s just taking a lot longer than expected! I just hope I can complete the build before I’m too old to climb in to enjoy it! Regardless, I WILL finish!
