I recently started working at a hot rod shop which is where i have relocated my tumbler. Through some brainstorming and such i have decided to vear away from the traditional matt black color and im going to build all the body panels from carbon fiber... and using diverters and an exhaust igniter to make a dual overhead exhaust divertable into a single 6" pipe that can ignite using hotlicksexhaust.com's igniter

There are no dually factory made steel wheels for 16.5 X 12.
The original movie Tumbler used 16.5 x 12 shell wheels with welded in
dually centers and no wheel adapters.
gez1967 acquired some of the original tires mounted on custom dually rims.
In this case his photo images are worth many thousand woods.

In the past custom wheel companies have quoted these wheels between
1000-2000.00 each.
Judging from your building and welding skills I would imagine that you
could weld them up yourself.

Been a while but i have made some progress... got the tumbler inside and on a rack, spent a few weeks de-rusting the floor, got a dana-70 rear end, and mounted the engine and trans.
Next im going to mock-up the rear end to make the trailing arms, and have a custom two piece drive shaft built.
Figured out a good setup for the rear wheels, of which, the rims are being built at trailworthyfab.com with some rock rings installed bearing the bat symbol plasma cut in them.

Yeah, I was just thinking, "I thought that car had a V-Drive". It will be interesting to see how this approach works out.

I am taking a different approach from the V-drive because i want to make the cab more aesthetically accurate. I found a place near me that makes custom drive shafts and they are currently making a two piece, extending driveshaft that is around 12" long... told them as short as possible so ill have a more accurate length when i get it in... im also building the rear suspension to be like those found on nascar vehicles.

Looks great.
Have my rear axle and triangle four link installed.
Been thinking about using a telescoping drive shaft from trans to rear end for my Tumbler.
I was looking more towards needing 12" of free telescoping movement or either making the rear coil springs real heavy with resulting increase in suspension stiffness.
Big Wave Dave's four seater Tumbler is the only one I know of that uses a conventional drive powertrain.
Why do you think the movie and replica Tumbler's didn't use conventional engine/trans and instead turned the powertrain around and used a gearbox to return power to rear axle? vertigo
