hey sly,
Can't wait to see the pieces put together. To have a DOJ Batmobile milled from the 3D files was 8,000.00 plus shipping the last time I checked. So, you're saving a lot of money doing it yourself. Plus you have learned a new skill and have a useful tool for future projects. vertigo

hey sly,
Received an email asking about how to get started in composites.
Got any book recommendations for new builders wanting to get started with composites?
Here is a copy of a post I made on 11-18-2015
Information that may be valuable for someone contemplating the building of composite body panels for the Tumbler.
Finally found something that might be of benefit to those new to fiberglass and composites and/or having some problems/difficulties with turning their composites dreams into competently executed realities. Learning to use fiberglass and other composites from internet videos alone is almost impossible. This is one area of learning that is easiest to learn from books with lots of detailed pictures, reinforced with videos, and only truly mastered with lots of hands on practice. I found three books written by John Wanberg and titled COMPOSITE MATERIALS Fabrication Handbook #1, #2, and #3 Composite Garage Series. These books are very detailed and extremely well written and illustrated. The information in these books is very to the point without the clutter of any BS. I have to say they are the best I have seen for someone looking for the shortest way to gain general knowledge and a fast transition into practical application. vertigo

Yeah, I don't know Vert. I haven't found many videos that are very helpful but here are a couple of articles that might prove useful.

Finished milling the back end sections and put a layer of epoxy resin on to seal the foam. loosely put the two halves together and the side jet intakes on.
Drivers side rear fin and underneath:
Underneath center area:
Put some seat cushions in to check out the seating space. It's going to be tight.
I was thinking about trying to make each of these sections as separate stand alone molds but I think there is just too much danger of things not lining up right. So I think I will do a complete solid body and then use flanges to separate the mold sections.

Just a little update on what is happening.
Working on sealing the sections with a coat of epoxy resin. Ran out of the resin Saturday so ordered some new, quick curing resin. That came today and I tried it out. Looks like it will work great. So I'll get back to work on that and give you another update when I get more done.

Back half of plug permanently fastened together. To fasten the sections together I am putting a strip of fiberglass tape along the seems and wetting it with resin.

Thanks Vert.
Here's a pic of some more parts being permanently fastened together.
The reason the upper left quadrant of the front clip is a different color is because It was the first piece I tried the epoxy method on and I used the slow curing, very thick epoxy resin I already had. Now I am using fast curing (relatively speaking) epoxy that is more clear.
I forgot that this piece has two more small extensions of the wheel flares that I still need to mill. I will do those tomorrow and fasten them on. Should be able to show you the whole body permanently joined by this weekend.
edit: btw, that tall piece (the front clip) is about 6 feet tall and 8 feet wide.
