Very interesting and something I didn't even know existed.

It might be pretty tricky to mock up some small parts of a 1:25 scale model to full size. That's quite a jump in size. I think you would need a stylus the size of a needle. Maybe it could be done in several stages, double the size each time. Could be cool.

starting with something like a 1:6 scale would certainly help.

Nice thing about the CNC router is I have the CAD files and the computer could break up the parts and make it any size easily by doing it in sections.

I have been playing with my CAD files of the DOJ Batmobile using Autodesk Fusion 360. It allows you to take a CAD file, make a CAM file and even simulate the milling. Pretty fun. So now I have decided to build a CNC machine. I want a 2' x 4' machine. Kits would be the easiest, but also a little expensive. I've done a lot of research on plans and how to videos etc. and finally decided to purchase these plans as they look like the best way to go for me. https://solsylva.com/cnc/rack_pinion.shtml

My plan is to shape the parts from my CAD files in foam and use them for plug molds.

Sounds like progress to me.
Will be looking forward to your build in the new year.

Yes, a little progress. But I think it might be fruitful. The plans cost $30 so I went ahead and got them. They are very well done with illustrations and step by step instructions. They also include templates of some of the parts. I have already found a source for all the software and a repurposed old computer will work to run it.

I'm taking a trip to Mexico during the first part of January and plan to get started on this when I get back.

Placed a copy of this post here for the possible benefit to anyone
planning to, and/or,
actually building a Bat Vehicle.

hey sly,
Here is some information that you might be able to use.

Thinking about building a cnc foam router using one of these.

Rigidity in thought has taught us to visualize and believe that a CNC
plasma cutting and wood/form router system looks like a table with two
rails that a boom rides on to create X and Y axis.

This company clearly was thinking outside the box when they created a
CNC system with an effective cutting range of 5.2 X 9.8 feet that
sells for 2,458.00. Looks like one would only have to add a deep Z and
build a wood framed table to have an excellent foam cutting table.
Will be researching this possibility further.

Thanks for the info Vert. Here's what I've been up to lately:

As you know, I have had a bit of a break from my build. My youngest daughter got married in Mexico during the first part of January to a Mexican national. I went down for the wedding and stayed there for a week. Very interesting to a guy from the upper Midwest that doesn't speak a word of Spanish. That event severely drained my discretionary resources. While I was down there, my father passed. So there has been the funeral and the estate to take care of now that I am back.

But I haven't totally neglected the build either. I have been working with the DOJ Batmobile 3d files and am gaining knowledge about how to use them. I am a total novice to CAD, CAM, and G-code, so I have a lot to learn.

I have done a lot of research on CNC machines and have decided a 2'x4' machine will work best for me. It is small enough to fit in my modest sized work area and big enough to make some decent body parts without needing to glue too many small sections together.

I have purchased the DIY 2'x4' CNC plans from solsylva https://solsylva.com/cnc/rack_pinion.shtml. The plans are by David Steele and are quite detailed with easy to follow directions. Here is the picture of what the completed machine is suppose to look like:

I have completed the table section and am ready to start work on the Y axis Gantry. Here is a picture of what I have done so far:

Batmobile

I will buy the plug and play electronics kit from cncrouterparts.com. (Update 5/23/21) Now avidcnc.com)

I've done a lot of research and this looks like the way to go for me. The computer will be easy as an older, inexpensive used computer will work just fine. Only thing I will need is the Mach3 program.

I am also planning on purchasing a large format 3d printer. I can use it to print out side mechanics, the gun turret, etc. I am leaning toward the Creality3D CR - 10 but am also considering the Folger Tech FT-5 R2. Any recommendations about that?

Got the 3d Batmobile files from do3d.com. They are awesome and quite detailed. Only thing is they don't include the side mechanics. Here is an example of the body section:

Excellent progress and outstanding work.
By the way I have used MACH 3 (MACH MILL) on my 4 axis milling machine for more than 10-years.
Very user friendly and intuitive with a quick learning curve.

I have read that there can be some concerns with a slave x stepper and it might be better to use only one stepper instead of two. What's your experience with this?

(Right now I plan to use two because I can always change it to one motor if it becomes a problem)

My Torchmate 4 X 4 has two motors on the X Axis.
One time I forgot to connect the cable to one of the two motors.
When I ran the table it began to bind and jump, transferring slack from side to side.
Reconnected the disconnected second motor and everything ran fine.

I don't believe a single motor would be a problem on a 2 X 4 table. Shorter Y axis.
I never tried my 2 X 4 table with one motor before I modified it to a 4 X 4 but it did come with two motors.
It would depend on how much alignment error was between the two X axis rails.
Plus moving a router takes more force to move it.
I would probably have to go with two motors because the combined forces of the two motors would keep the slack even on both sides.
