Overheard this a while back from a group of wives and girlfriends discussing one
girl’s future husband’s Batman collection.

“He must have a thousand dollars in those things,” she said.

Note: He has more than fifty collectible action figures so he must
have bought them on sale at that price.

Anyone out there have an opinion and/or comment to help her understand
his thinking and the reason he enjoys owning them?

Chances are this particular woman is a hypocrite and also has her own little "vice" if you will. With women it is commonly clothing and accessories.

Not a lot to add to this. Do you.

Clearly, this simply comes down to the fundamental truth that tastes
in aesthetics, occupations, and avocations are incredibly varied, and
will often not intersect in any way with your own tastes. I personally
don't understand the appeal of collecting porcelain cat and clown
figurines, but I accept that her mother finds it a stimulating and
worthwhile pursuit.
