So the rear hub is off waiting to get welded. I still haven't tried taking on welding aluminum, probably won't either, lol. In the mean time I started on the front end. I re-built my jig holding the frame and made sure I got the tires centered. The first part I made was the swivel goose neck which will attach to the front swing arm so to speak. I was originally going to do aluminum inserts and screw them in place around the perimeter of the 5 inch tube. I planned on counter sinking the screws so they'd barely be visible, but it did not work out the way I hoped. Due to the curve of the tube, there was no real way to get them completely flush. Unless you went to a size screw small enough, but then I was worried about strength. Long story short I just machined a 5/8 piece of steel and put the bearing in that. I was able to spot weld it in place all the way around. It should be plenty sufficient for its purpose.

So there is one of those on each side and then it slides over the solid shaft welded into the cradle.

With those tacked in place I was able to put the box section over that and the front swing arm. As I have mentioned everything is tacked in place for the time being which has proved VERY handy since several parts I have had to cut apart and reposition and re-weld. Even with as many templates as there are on here, im finding it tricky to get everything put together in one shot. (Maybe thats just me.

Another small piece which came in were my discs for the brakes. I almost started setting up the front end and realized the thickness of the rotors was going to affect my center line, so I needed them in place before I got everything in position. Thank goodness that came to me one night while I was laying in bed. I would have been a very unhappy camper to set it all up and find out everything was a 1/4 inch off center when I added the rotors. There are som many small details, Im constantly thinking and thinking...

So I got carried away and forgot to take pictures in between. I was also making good progress so I kept moving forward. This is the front end in place.

Everything fits nicely inside the wheel. One of the only things im running into now is the height for the steering linkage is pretty far off. (to use the factory one on the spindle that is) I should be able to just weld a piece of round stock on it and raise it up. I will have to make my own attaching point.

So for now thats where things stand. As soon as my shock comes in, AND I get my buddy to weld up the rear hub Im hoping to have this puppy standing up on its own two wheels! In the mean time im working on the little parts like the steering rod which will go down the front fork. Ill update when I can. Thanks to everyone who's been following this!
