Ok batfans....so now i can weld!,i figured i can do the chassis, get a fairly cheap v8 motor, think iv found a tyre supplier that do similar stuff to swampers, figured out steering using chopped front hubs reversed but im wondering thr best rear axle to use bearing in mind im in the uk,ive heard of dana 30 off a jeep, chevy duelly, any ideas?,plus what about the rear hubs to take the twin wheels, custom made jobies or is anybody using summat already out there??,also cant be street legal due to crappy red tape over here, obviously this would be a massive and long and very hard build but im to determined to forget about it so i need to do this,if we don't believe we will never achieve will we!!,so if you have any info it would be greatly recieved, watching you builders inspires me to try.thanks

Hey Mattymo36,
Welcome to the forum. Ford 9-inch is stated by many to be in the original Tumbler. Dana 30 way too weak. Dana 60 is stronger than the Ford 9-inch and is the one I am using in my Tumbler. vertigo

Hey Mattymo, Vertigo is right on all accounts. The ford nine inch was trussed up for strength but with a single wheel bearing per side that's a lot of rotating mass to control. The 44 inch TSLs with custom steel rims weigh about 175lbs each. After starting with a Camaro rear end, then I moved onto a custom axle and finally ended up with a chevy eight lug floating axle. Its fricking strong with dual bearings per side. Oh yeah no adapters and steel rims mounted directly to the axle hub.  Hope that helps. BWD
