Hi Vertigo, I am following your posts very closely. I am beginning my research and aiming to start fabricating by the end of summer next year.
Spending a great many hours trying to learn some rendering in Sketchup after seeing a few of Shaggy's posts. Hopefully this will give me a way to get things dimensionally correct and make build sheets for each section.
How did you start your research to understand dimensions and what the basis for your chassis would be?

Hey Sapper,
Welcome to the forum. There really are two ways to plan your build. The movie accurate and the functionally improved. Sketchup and CAD programs are good but take several thousand hours to really master and in reality restrain you to a flat 2-D world. The quickest way to gain an overall 3-D perspective of the Tumbler is to buy a model. I have all of them and the best is the HOT TOYS 1/6th scale. My second choice would be the 1/18th scale Elite Hot Wheels. In truth CAD, or even, a computer are not necessary to effectively build the Tumbler. For those without mastery they are usually more of an obstacle. The Tumbler can effectively be planned with only a model, rulers, circular compass, and a pantograph. Remember car designers still build models, even with ownership of CAD programs that cost tens of thousands of dollars. Movie correct building will require a lot of additional photo analysis. Good luck with your build. vertigo

Vertigo,
Thank you for the well thought out reply and advice. The chassis looks great and would be a great start.
I guess one good reference point in my mind is to figure out what hubs the movie car used, get the tires, and start scaling based on that width. Some trigonometry might be in order once the angle of the rear shocks is known.
Carefully reviewing your chassis pictures now.

Hey Sapper,
Tumbler rear tires are 44-inches in diameter. Good scale point. Movie Tumbler wheels/hubs are custom made and not found stock anywhere. Just a hint. I've seen a half dozen people start their Tumbler builds by going out and buying the tires and wheels first. None of them even got past building their frame. I have not bought my tires and wheels yet because of these failures to build I saw in others. I will not buy my tires and wheels until I feel I have earned the right by proving myself worthy. Part of my Tumbler building Zen. When I finish my Tumbler's front suspension arms then I will feel that I have proven myself worthy enough to buy my front tires and purchase the custom made steel wheels. See my posts on photo-analysis #92553 3-4-14, 92606 3-10-14, and 92607 3-10-14. vertigo

Hey batfreak11308,
Welcome to the forum and thanks for the kind words. By sheets, I assume you mean body panels. Mine will be made of steel and I will probably just draw them out directly on the steel stock, since my Tumbler will be a one of a kind. vertigo
