hey sly,
"standard tactical spaced welding techniques to equalize heated metal expansion and contraction forces."
Got those words from book on precision welding that was aimed at engineers and scientists.
Since the full color book shows all the people welding dressed in white I kind of get the feeling they don't do much actual welding for a living.
I use to just say tack welding. vertigo

WHAT IS THE ACTUAL COLOR OF THE BATMAN TUMBLER?
Yes BLACK. Be more specific. What type of black?
Looks like MATTE BLACK to me.
I've seen some describe online the color as "Super Dark Stealth Gray"
Anyone have a different opinion on the color of the Batman Tumbler?
Anyone seen the Tumbler in person? What color do you think it was.

Hi Vertigo the original tumbler first showed in batman begins was flat or matt black. I have my jeep wrapped in it and my lorry will try to find pics. I have a copy of the batmobile book were it is clear to see original colour, it then has black gloss stickers on the leading edges of the wings. If you look at the car then on the jay leno show and at any of the shows or displays you will notice it has had the whole car even over the stickers on wings painted with a semi gloss black. This is why there is variations in the way it appears in some pictures. Mine is painted in a textured Matt black finish i used under body stone chip and in all pictures taken or just even looking and touching it gives it that raw military feel. I suppose its up to you how you want it to look to me being a car painter i wanted it to feel used and functional rather than a shiny show car. I also find when i get to a show i can run around the car with black shoe polish to tidy up any marks as the coating has a rubber feel.

hey paulwayne,
Thanks for the info and advice.
I feel the same way. I am going after that "raw military feel." That's why I am building my Tumbler heavy duty in steel.

What brand of paint "textured matte black and application method did you use.

One fellow I know recommended textured barbeque paint from Rusttoleum.

I prepped the panels first with 2 pack primer as most of my panels were fibreglass. I then used a body shutz gun and the screw on body shutz under body coating you get in 500ml cans that are refillable.

The rustoleum is good in small applications. It is very expensive.

Positioned axle to work on four-link suspension.
Ordered left and right hand taps to clean up hemi-joint welded tubing insert threads.
At this time I can only screw the hemi-joints in part way.
Went ahead and assembled the lower two links of the four-link.

Received my custom 20" x 18" Tumbler front steel wheels. Took almost four months to get them but they were well worth the wait. The centers were cut from 3/8" steel and dished in a 100 ton stamping capacity press. They ended up weighing 125 pounds each. A circle of bolts will go in the circle of holes around the wheels to give it a more military appearance. vertigo
