Hello Everyone,

Still doing about 3-hours of research for every hour of physical building. On the research side, anybody know which model of ARGO V drive was used in any of the movie or replica Tumblers?

ARGO V & Z Drives

  •  V600 / Z600- Argo gears are cut from high-quality, case-hardened steel.  Each gear is key-press fitted for precision and gears are matched lapped for smooth and reliable operation. (for continuous drives to 600hp)
  • V600C / Z600C- Argo's V600C offers you all the quality performance features as in the V600 with the added warm up clutch for your convienience. (for clutch drives to 600hp / upgrade bearings available for extreame horsepower!-rated to 1200hp.)
  • V600CP / Z600CP - Argo's most popular gearbox for high performance racing!!!  V600CP adds the safety of Prop Release to the features of the V600 and V600C.  Argo's upgraded bearings are also available on this unit. (for race drives with clutch and prop release)

Argo's 1000 Racing Series Gearboxes

Each 1000 Series unit delivers a new level of performance and reliability for the ultra-high performance needs of racing.  We've added even more performance to the high performance of the V600 Series by going over each and every gear, shaft and bearing.  We've incresed the standard gear set from the 600 Series to 38mm wide.  We've splined each shaft for added strength and reliability.  We've added higher performance bearing to handle even higher revs.  We've thought of anything and everything that the racer could ask for.  We've designed the V1000 Series to handle as much horsepower and torque as you can imagine.

  • Argo's V1000 Series Features - Argo's new wider 38mm gears are machined from high-quality, case-hardened steel.  Each gear is spline fitted and match lapped for precision, strength and smooth operation.  Shafts have even more strength than the 600 Series and bearings have been re-designed to handle more thrust-load. (designed for continuous drive systems)
  • Argo's V1000C and V1000CP offer the same components as the 600 Series with the higher performance upgrades.

                           V1000C - Adds warm-up clutch

V1000CP - Adds warm-up clutch and Propellor Release

Hello Everyone,

Still doing about 3-hours of research for every hour of physical building. On the research side, most documents agree that the following tires were used on the Tumbler.

4-Interco Super Swamper TSL tires 44/18.5 - 16.5 in the rear and 2-Hoosier Checkerboard dirt tires 94.0/15.0 - 15 on the front.

Does anyone know what rims were used with them on the front or back? Back rims appear to be modified Eaton rims and front rims look to be stock. Still researching all available rims. If need be ,several rims appear within conversion possibility through welding/machining modifications.

Hello Everyone,

My Tumbler Research and Building Strategy

The Tumbler is a complex and labor intensive build and one could easily become overwhelmed and burn out on the project.

To avoid this I developed my strategy.

I studied the Tumbler for a year without physically building anything.

Now I research/study/plan for 3-hours

 to every physical construction hour.

As my strategy evolved I bought a couple of file cabinets.

Then I marked the drawers with

FRAME-FRONT-REAR-BODY-MISC-PHOTOS/DRAWINGS

Inside each marked drawer I broke down the marked category into smaller divisions/steps/procedures/parts/etc and marked folders with each of these. Everything I have relevant to a folder I put into it, adding to it as I locate/discover more useful information.

I am currently physically working on the front end but I am also researching/studying/planning in many of the other folders and view all of them at least once a month.

To look at the Tumbler as a whole it is complex and labor intensive. To look at the Tumbler in divisions/steps/procedures/parts/etc makes it easier for me to solve and overcome the many problems associated with its construction without major stress.

Hello Everyone,

Finally got a day without demands to work on the physical building of my Tumbler.

Tried to fit the 2-inch diameter stainless steel shafts to the flange bearings and found they were between .001-.002 oversize. So I had to center drill the ends and polish the diameter down until they were at 2.000.

Hello Everyone,

After getting the shafts into the proper dimension I began to adjust the inner flange bearing brackets. Once I was satisfied I clamped them into position a tack welded on all sides.

Hello Everyone,

Purchased some 3’’ outside diameter with ½” wall DOM tubing. The inside diameter was too tight to fit over the 2 inch shafts. Will probably fabricate a reamer to take a few thousandths off the inside to make a useable inside diameter.

Hello Everyone,

Currently looking for who made the upper spring over shocks. Seeking the dimensional and functional parameters, in particular, Brand Name(s), Model(s), Part Number(s), Diameter, Length, Compression strength-PSI, and Compression travel and length reduction.

Hello Everyone,

Spent a day studying photographs and drawing out life-sized patterns on wafer board for front arms and center nose module. Building the front end of the Tumbler is probably the hardest construction. Close symetrical accuracy takes a lot alignment tricks to get it right.
