Hi, i'm glad I came across this forum. I've found lots of great info for my project. Long story short, i've built a few cool vehicles. I started out racing, built a few race cars, then a custom chopper. I always wanted something more unique so i decided to start a V8 trike (something batman would ride), then one day I saw a youtube video of the gumball 3k tumbler and I knew I had to build one.

Here are some pics of previous projects (toys)

race car (never finished)

Chopper (finished)

now the V8 trike that basically has all the parts I need to use for the tumbler project, 4.8l vortec V8, th400 trans, 15x15 bart racing wheels (for the front wheels) and more
Batmobile

I'm going to need help from you guys for this! i'm not exactly sure where to find some of the parts needed.

my first question !

Where can I find this spindle / hub? I cant figure out what its off of?
Batmobile

Second Q... My ford 8.8 rear end, can I use this rear and do a dually adaptor and spacer? or do I have to sell it and pick up an actual dually rear? I think arrowcraft makes conversions.

If anyone has some info or knowledge id appreciate it

I'm new to this site, and im building a tumbler too. For looks that ford rear end would work with adapters, but performance wise use a Dana. A dually rear has longer hardened studs that allow the dual spacer to hold under a load. im using a 1ton dually Dana rear out of a 97 dodge ram. Im gonna build my tumbler heavy using sheet metal so maybe I'm overkilling it. Hope I helped

Wow welcome. Anything tumbler or batpod related questions can be answered by BWD or Shaggy.

After some research you're right, I'm now on the hunt for a super duty rear end. I'm reading that converting single wheel truck rears to dually can be troublesome. Cheapest I've found is $700 on eBay

You're staring at the cut off section of a 4X4 spindle, perhaps from an '80's chevy. Something like this:

Yup i figured I need a 4wd / truck front axle assembly. The problem is, I would need to buy a whole complete unit and scrap the entire center section. I only need the spindle/hub/brake system and pivot part. harder then I thought trying to source this stuff. I'm not as familiar with off road and 4x4 stuff. unless you have a specific part number is impossible to find stuff online.

What I know I need is a 5x4.5 bolt pattern because I already have my 15x15 bart front wheels!

found a Dana 30 front end off a wrangler. The guy was nice enough to cut the parts off I needed

Next up is a trip to PA to get an E350 dually rear end on Saturday

Now i'm trying to finalize my chassis dimensions and wheelbase and width because i'm about to order my steel. Drive train layout is the determining factor as well as the law. I'm thinking about doing a different route from the other tumbler builders. Most do the rear facing motor / V-drive then back underneath. I'm thinking about doing an inline engine/trans/diff setup and sitting in front of the engine like in the Mclaren F1 and having two seats on each side set back a little.

The total length from the front pulley on my LS motor all the way back to the center line of the Diff is 73". With 6" of wiggle room, including a firewall. I only need 4'3" for my seat and pedals. Here is the trick, i'm thinking about using the nose cone between the tumblers wheels for a pedal box, it gives me plenty of room. My only concern is the overall length of the build. Right now I have the total length at 15' 4". My tundra is 17' 6" so its not crazy long, but I dont want the "look" be off too much. From what I can see on other tumbler builds, they are coming in around 13.5 to 15 feel long.

Width is another issue. From what I read, 8ft is as wide as you can go to be street legal. 96" is the max unless its a recreational vehicle. I will do the same layout as bigwavedave, put the motor in the middle if length becomes a problem. I'd rather not do the Vdrive, its loud and they go for two grand used.

I'm HORRIBLE at 3d and sketchup so I'm old fashioned with my graph paper. here is the layout.

Scale wheelbase 15' 4" and a real one

Any help is appreciated. Anyone who helps me gets to come drive it when its done!!

picked up a heavy duty GM dually rear, Mocked up the driveline and started measuring the outer dimensions.

Decided to sit next to the motor. figure i'll connect the trans output directly to the diff. I see no reason to have the motor forward. The further back the headers are from my shoulders the better.

My only question still is exactly how long these builds are. Are they 15' axle to axle or total? big difference.
