Hi Gang, i have been a member here for years but always more of a lurker than a poster. I always wanted to build an '89 Batmobile and i am getting real close to starting it. I run a very successful DC Universe Fan-site called dcuo-unlimited.com / dcuniverseunlimited.com , where i cover all dc news. I also have a few very successful podcasts on itunes, DCUO UNLIMITED, GOTHAM NEWS RADIO and the Jokers FunHouse. Just a bit about me
But before the 89 build my father brought my brother and i in the hot rod scene and classic cars. And me always loving the old school comic books loved the 1940's Batmobile. Well my father passed away in 2008 and we always talked about one day building my 89 batmobile, so about a year ago i got a divorce and my brother and i moved in together and working on cars again was fun, I've missed it and given it up really since my pops passed.
My brother saw me putting up my batmobile collection and looking over all the batmobile's i own (models, die cast, hot wheels, corgi's, ertl) he asked if i still wanted to build one, i told him,"Everyday i want one". So we talked about all the years batmobiles and how they would be cool to make. Then as i was looking at my 1940's die cast it came to me!! we would build a batmobile but we will do it in honor of 1 for my day, 2 for the first true batmobile in comics.
Now came the time to get the donor car, looking over the comic version it was a cross between a 1940's ford coupe and a 1939 chevy (sides almost looked like a dodge bro's also). Now these cars are not easy or cheap to come by since the old car scene is huge and 1939's are really sought after.
But my brother got a lead on one in Houston and boom we went up to Houston and looked at it and bought it. We trailer-ed it back home to SA and began to to bring it alive.
Here is a pic when we first got it-

Next we drop the engine-

Not the tims going the car but a buddy of ours let us use them to roll car, getting primed-

New goodies on engine, wiring started-

More wiring-

Pontiac Steering/column-

Infinite Seats-

Another Engine Shot-

Back-

So the ultimate goal is to have it look like this-

OK now to some details,
1. We did not go with a coupe for one main reason, me and my brother i big guys. Fitting in to the older cars can be a pain. We tried a 1940's ford coupe and found it not to be he best bases for us on this build. We are above 6 feet and need something we can cruise and enjoy.
2. The headlights we might leave as you see in the above pics but switch the signal lights.
3. The top wing/fin might be modified a bit, still looking at options for this part.
4. Yes it will have the Bat-man face with yellow eyes on it.
5. It will have the Black and red theme however the strips will be even and only mid top side of car.
6. The interior will be same theme, all black and red with the 2 front seats and back seat with red batsymbol
the 2nd from the top will be on seats and trunk

It does have a 350 engine and mustang 2 front end.
Hope you guys like it, we are making the face real soon and hope to have3 an update then. Maybe we can add a 1940's Batmobile Build section on forums once it's complete.
Take Care gang,
Apple

This is totally awesome! I'm really loving the old school Chevy pickup in the foreground as well. My mother has one that she wants converted into a "Grave Digger" tribute, so I'll be doing that soon. Here is a pic of hers. Keep up the great work sir! I'm looking forward to seeing more!
