I OFFICIALLY started my build today when I picked up a Caprice Classic. I got an excellent deal on what was (interestingly enough) a screen used movie car. It previously served as a cop car in a number of low budget movies, one of which is called "Bad Cop". One of the actors in the movie owned this car during production, and just sold it. Mechanically, the car is in AMAZING condition. The engine is beautiful, has had a lot of recent work done on it, and has only 50k miles on it. All of the mechanical systems seem to be working excellently. It drives really great, and I'm really happy about that. It's the fuel injected model, which is what I was hoping for. Transmission feels really solid. The thing accellerates and brakes like a champ. What's funny is that everything else on the car totally sucks! Nothing works! The dashboard lights, the AC, the side view mirrors, the power locks, the back power windows, the seats dont' move, the dash is cracked, the paint job is a disaster, there are non-trivial dents in every panel, it looks like it's been painted five different times with a hand roller, there are stickers on the car that have been painted over, holes in the roof where the police lights used to be attached, etc. It's TOTALLY not safe to be used as a daily driver, but for my purposes, it's exactly what I was looking for. I will post some pics tomorrow, and make some decisions about how I'm going to document this build, but as far as I'm concerned, the official start date of this build is April 23, 2011.

Awesome Matt! sounds like a good find... hopefully you're the kind of person that likes to post a lot of pictures because I definitely like watching these builds! BTW where are you located?

MW, the good news is, I am a HUGE fan of posting pictures! The only reason I didn't do it on my first post is because I was just so excited to get this thread started... AND left my camera in my car I'm also going to be shooting a lot of video along the way, and am considering putting together a weekly vlog that tracks my progress. I'm not sure yet about that, as it may add an extra layer of overhead to the project that could distract me from the actual build. I'm in Orange County, California. Thanks for all the support guys. This has definitely been a long time coming. Like so many others, I've wanted one of these cars since I saw the first trailer for the 89 movie.

Here are some more misc shots of the car. Though it looks like the engine has been recently cleaned, and maybe sprayed with Armor All to make it more attractive to a buyer, I can see loads and loads of brand new parts that have been added recently.
