I've been looking through this site for awhile.  I made a lego replica of the tumbler.  Its pretty cool.  I'll get a picture of it up, but now im gonna try to make one about the same size out of brass.

This is the first thing i have ever tried to replicate something from scratch like this, so bear with me over the size.

First i attemped to create some plans for it, just hoping the final product won't come out distored.  I took pictures from this website and basically just used proportions to get the lengths of segments accurate and to scale.

" border = 0 target ="_blank" title = "Batmobile">" border = 0 onload = "resizeThis(this)" alt = "Batmobile" > *wheels are easy in proportions because looking at them from any side you can see the diameter

ok, now i know how to post those.  i think the wheel set up is accurate, so then i tried to add in where i thought a frame would be

*i had to guess on the edges.  if you think you could make it better, please let me know as soon as possible before I get to far into the model to fix it.  thanks

I know that my legnth:width ratio is slightly off.  Its set to be each box is the equivalent of 4 inches (3 boxes a foot).  It should haev an extra box included on the length (i showed it at 15ft, not 15' 4"). So its 2.2% shorter than it should be for its width (assuming it reaches to teh outer boundries shown when you add the detailing and panels to it).  It'll be an easy fix - just make the sides leaner or add a little extra legnth to the cab.

I was actually wrong in my last post - the length i showed was correct.  It is 15 feet long and 9' 4", not 15'4 and 9.  I was mixed up when i wrote it.

So once i had the foundation layout in the x/z plane complete, i moved vertically (im gonna consider it the y-plane).  it was a little harder.  more interpretation was involved, so please let me know my errors

I'm planning on using those diagonal lines for front edge the shielding stuff over the windows, so i hope they are correct.

From the front.  i wish i knew how to do this stuff with sketch up or something like it. CAD is expense, but i will hopefully get to take a class on it.  anyways,

green=front tires, blue=rear tires, black=frame(as i intend to make it), red=rectange entire car should fit in to be(to help be to scale).

Hey Drew your doing a great job so far!  When i first tackled the idea of building a tumber (in several scales) i started with a pen and paper.   I soon realized that one of MY fatal flaws is that i have difficulty matching things up left-to-right, EVEN WITH guided line paper.  So i scrapped the idea sat down and forced myself to enter a world of drawing i never knew....3D graphics.   Couple that with the encouragment from Chilebean, i started with the basics (drawing squares, circles, extruding, cutting, welding) and progressively learning the more difficult stuff.   I now am learning physics, which is a plugin for Sketchup that allows you to animate models.

So, simply put, dont give up just because you dont know sketchup at the moment, its easy to learn, just give it time.   And it comes out alot cleaner than pen and paper ever gave me.   But thats just my opinion.

Also check this out, this was on the driver side window of the actual Tumbler when it was display.   Notice the measurements.

Also i dont know if this helps, but this is from my model.  This would be the inner-skin if you will, that all the panels attatch to.   Its not 100% accurate, but as close as i could get it.

oh my... your work is beautiful...  how long did that take?  Was that on sketch up? or which 3d program?

And i think im gonna be haveing problems meeting scale now.  Im further along in the modeling stage than the plans i made, and i think im too far in to made up for the discrepencies in the sizes.  I took the legnth from the Tumber main page which was 15'x9'4", so i need more stretch, but i already so much the frame done...  and the wheels are the wrong sizes and distances.  I'll make this model just a rough draft.
