Hey BWD, when that dash was started, did you, say: 1. Start with a foam sculpt of the dash inside the car, then remove the foam sculpt to outside the car, then fiberglassed over it, and then removed the foam from behind it?   or 2.  Start with a foam sculpt of the dash inside the car, then removed the foam sculpt to outside of the car, then made molds, then pulled a fiberglass replica off those molds?

The dash i have picked out for my car is an actual dash from another vehicle (2007 Dodge Viper) tho a viper is not something you would normally find in a pick-a-part junkyard.   Nor is is the same in dimensions as my 72 camaro....so i've opted to fix both problems and just build my dash using pictures of the actual dash and door panels.   Also there are a few items I have decided to change from the original dash (see pictures below).   For example, it has but one cup holder, i want 2, and where the hand E-brake is, i have created a cubby hole for loose change, etc.   (I like the brake on the floor myself)  ALL THE GAUGES will be aftermarket  AutoMeter Phantom II series gauges.  The gauges in the center console will not be frenched like you see in the pictures below, rather they will keep the bevel that comes factory on the edge of the gauge.

Sad thing is, i absolutely DESPISE Dodge, yet I'm putting a Dodge inspired interior in my car, what the crap is wrong with me?

I'd love to hear about this too, and progress pics would be awesome.    Did you do the stitching on the dash or farm that out?

It's ok to despise Dodge, but not the Viper.  Dodge or not, it's a bad ass.

Oops, sorry.  Yeah, that was directed toward BWD, my bad.  Don't worry, all the cars have to be in pieces at some point.  It'll come together!

Hey Maul that stitching was farmed  out. The Ferrari dash was not made with a mold but a plug....

1. The process was using press board hot glued together close to the deminsion of the dash then reinfored with bracing on the backside.

2. Then pull out of car and install expanding foam to get the curves.

3. Then reset in the car to mark up with a marker where to add and delete foam.

4. After final fit cover with masking tape for separation later. Lay fiberglass over masking tape then bondo fill low spots.

5. Grinding and final sanding then take to upholster and he fit Pleather over fiberglass.

Sorry I didn't take pictures. I actually did the carbonfiber dash but it took me three tries.....BWD

THANK YOU SO MUCH BWD, you have no idea how much the decision between a plug or a mold helps me out.   And on top of that you layed out the process, step by step.   I assure you this information is definately going to help me in the end of things.

Oh, and Chilebean, i actually have already Vectored the dash for my Camaro with the changes, i just havent Vector'd it INTO my Camaro yet , havent had the money for a roll of film to take pictures of it (sad i know lol)  But as soon as i can do that, i am DEFINATELY going to do it.  In the meantime here is the version of the dash i have already vectored over someone else's 2nd Generation Camaro in various colors.

Ok well overdue for a small update. I've been real busy trying to get myself an A-B vehicle running, I've been using my dads truck for about a year now since my '72 camaro kicked the bucket. I will post you some pictures from this past summer where me and my wife were working on tearing down the truck. Its a 1989 GMC Sierra, 2wd, 305 TBI, the first fuel injected vehicle i have ever worked on.

Thats what the truck looked like when i got it. The paint job is no longer like that, its now black with a red squiggly strip down the side. I dont have a picture of it yet, but the truck looks basically like this now.

Here is a few pictures of my wife tearing down the engine, she absolutely enjoyed herself putting it back together as much as taking it apart.

that blue truck in the background is my dads truck that im using while i get myself a ride going.

Another shot

That is the 700R4 with hydrolic lock up converter it was incased with so much mud that we had to dig to find the bolts in order to remove it.

This is when the motor was still in the truck, i was told when you crank it up it kills every mosquito, so i said screw it, i never cranked it, i just pulled it out and had it rebuilt.

This was the day we pulled the engine out of the truck, yeah i was shirtless, so i edited this picture so i wont be blinding you all with my mayo white body.

Another shot of the motor, you cant really tell it but around the valves, and all in the lifter valley the oil had literally burnt itself to the block and flaked off. We did test and found that the block and heads were good, that it wasnt ran hot, it was just ran on propane all its life, and therefore ran hotter than a gasoline engine, causing this to happen. I had to take a pressure washer to the engine, then quickly wipe it down, and pre-oil it just to get it clean again.

Another shot, my wife said "your enjoying this arent you" as i took this picture.

The interior was demolished, the carpet had been pulled out, the headliner was removed and crued drawings of boobs were etched into the roof, with "beer rocks" below it. Yeah i sprayed over all that. That seat isnt even the right seat for this model truck, it is for a 1963 Pick-up, great things worked out for it tho, i bought my wife's 63 pick-up which so happened to need a seat, and a friend of mine at work had a spare seat for my model truck, so he gave it to me. The intire interior was pulled out, leaving nothing but the wireing (which had to be redone due to hack jobs) and any metal peices attatched to the cab. i painted all the plastic peices with interior paint by Duplicolor so it would all match. The steering colomn was shattered so im in the process of removing it and putting in a new one as we speak.

I will post new pictures of this ride as soon as i can get them this weekend i hope.

Oh, btw, i payed only $300 bucks for the truck, and so far have invested around $600.

It has

Newly rebuilt engine, and reworked transmission,

New Aluminum Belt drive brackets

New Alternator

New Tires and brakes

Flushed Radiator system

New Seat

Newly redone interior (including wiring)

New Fuel pump assymbly

New filters all the way around

All for under $1000 so far, i think im happy so far given i am assured that the truck is sound.   There is hardly a bolt i havent turned on this truck.  I cant make claims on building the engine, kudo's to my wife for that one, i only installed and tuned it.

Next i will post pictures of the camaro, i will be tearing into it real soon, getting ready for the rebuild, but i want to post "before" pictures.

Ok, i took this past Saturday since weather was absolutely beautiful and put tires back on my camaro, i only had a set for a 3rd generation camaro laying around, so i used them as carrier tires for the time being.  I hope to afford a set of AR-39's again for it.  But in the meantime these tires and wheels will have to do.

This is what happens when the guy who owned the car before you puts the wrong springs on the hood hinges and the passenger side drops down too fast, grabs the lip of the window, and pries upwards

another view

rear end, i think i should have blurred the tag in this pic for some reason

whats left of the 4 bolt main (or so i am told) 350 2nd generation motor.  It shaved off some lifter lobes and wouldn't run right.   I really dont understand why, the engine is as clean as.....as...something super clean that i cant think of right now.

another view

another view

It had a holley 460 4 barrel that was "ok-decent" for the car, but it didnt have all that much get up and go, i traded it in for a quadrajet, i never could get the quadrajet tuned in right, it turns out that the cam was bad and that was why, but it took me changing carbs for it to show itself.   It also had an edelbrock victor JR aluminum intake, i sold it for $15 bucks, nothing wrong with it, I'm just tired of carborators.

passenger side with a doughnut tire

sorry so dark, but here's some interior shots.

BWD, we have the same steering wheel!   I smiled when i saw you had it on your Rumbler

That Hurst Shifter did work, but i let my friend use the car, and he didnt know that you had to squeeze the black bar underneath it to get it out of gear (Josh, the guy in the GMC pictures) so he just pulled on it until it broke, and finally went down in gear.  Oh well, win some, lose some.

some of the seats, these will be removed, BUT NOT thrown away, they are Year one reupholstered, and in damn good condition, all of the interior will be removed, some will return, most will be stored until a use is found for it.

rear seat and passenger seat

rear seat, it will be reupholstered to look more up-to-date, and put back in its original place.

Passenger side latch area...i dont know why i took this picture but here it is.  OH YEAH now i do!   You see those "nails" sticking out the side, they are for the vinyl top that it had, you see all those small bumps around it, thats RUST, that is rusting from the INSIDE!  the entire top is literally 90% bondo, i should know, i put it there myself, it was in such terrible shape and couldn'tnt stand seeing it like that.   So thbondo do was a temporary fix.

Passenger side door, i'd open the driver side door, but the latch has done rusted itself shut and its going to be a hastle to get open without breaking anything.

another shot

you can see those rust bumps better here

another shot

I brought my wife out and showed her the car since its the first time in like....6 months its had tires on it and she did EVERYTHING she could to keep from crying, she was tearing up and i asked her "whats wrong, i thought you would like to see it with the tires" and she said "no im fine, i just miss it so much, i just want to go out there and give it a hug, and ride it in one more time"   As soon as she said that i knew i had to do something to get it back up and going.    I never realized that she misses that car that much.

you see that dent on the trim line, the ONE DAY that i decided not to sit at McDonalds where i can keep an eye on my car, someone hits me and runs.  I know the truck who did it, i know where he stays, but i couldnt proove that he did it, so he got away with it, and i had a perfectly good door now dented.

I eyeballed that stripe and painted it on the car the second sunday in November, 2006, at 2:30 in the morning trying to get ready for the Lineville car show.

rear shot, yeah we went balistic with the paint after i shut it down.  I kinda figured it wouldnt hurt anything because 1: its just that much more paint to keep it from rusting, and 2: all of it will be sanded off anyway.

another door shot, the window tracks are busted, so the window wiggles when you open and close the door.   It doesnt do well in rain either.

Well thats all i have for right now, sorry not very "progressive" but I'm doing the best i can, i've been twiddling my thumbs for the past few days waiting for Clayton Homes to call me back and tell us to come sign paperwork so we can move into our new home.

Hope you all enjoyed it so far.  Will update as soon as i possibly can.
