Ha...nice...paid to play is always cool when it happens. I'll have to check out pull apart...warranty is no bother cause when the time comes, this will be for fitting purposes only..i want to end up with a real clean, barely used or rebuilt engine - I think that will be my most costly expense of my whole project (a couple thousand at very least - Uncle Sams refund will help with that one! ). helping others....thank you so much...and i know what you mean..helping others has been burned into my brain by 10 years of catholic school and a mom who would've been a nun if she didn't have children. very religous household, so the whole love one another and help others played big in my life and still remains in me (and I thank my mom and love her forever for that). maybe this is why i am here. maybe it's why I want to strike fear in the hearts of those who prey on the fearfull. whoa i'm veering of subject here...i'm going to check out pull apart.....

| Hey Conrad, You have done a great job in building the Tumbler. I had looked into buying a mock up engine. They sell them less expensive at Summit Racing. But with your skills you might consider mocking it up just as you did the body. build it in wood and the hot glue styrafoam panes from Lowes hardware. That way you could drop it in the Tumbler and move it around. You could get the dimensions from You-Pull-It salvage yard. My problem with the engine is its so large it takes up alot of room inside the Tumbler. I have an LS1 engine for my 89 which has an engine hieght of 24" because its fuel injected it has no carbuerator hieght. My Cadillac engine is 32" tall but I like it because it has so much low end torque. I'm going to reverse the engine so the bulk of the engine will be at the rear of the Tumbler. Making my Tumbler a four seater makes it tougher to build. The downside of the LS1 engine is it has a computer to fun the fuel injection and other system stuff. The carbuerated engine is vastly simpler for a home builder. Lastly consider how you are going to register the car. With safety and smog requirements it would be a shame to put it all together and it can't be street legal. Anyway those are just suggestions, your doing a great job and we look forward to more post. BWD...wow isn't the LS1 a vette engine? Geeze Louise...that's Awesome. I will look at mocking up the motor but when the time comes I might just break down and get one. I'm looking at a V6 buick or something similar: small and strong. If anyone else has suggestions on a strong 6 that will spin duallies I'd be happy to hear it. All this talk about engines got me giddy but I have to be realistic right now and focus on my chassis. Thanks BWD on the measurements, but it sounds like all you have is monster rocket engines that are all huge for my smaller Tumbler. OK it's not THAT small but it's not actual size either. let's see the real one is 15 feet long, 9 1/2 feet wide...(WOW!!) I'm about 13 1/2 feet long and 6 1/2 feet wide last i checked. I haven't thought of registering the vehicle until you mentioned it. does this mean I have to have a spot for a license plate? Don't think I can fit that in!

| Hey Conrad, The LS1 engine I have is a Cadillac CTS engine but yes basically a Corvette engine. It is a beautiful aluminum engine wuth aluminum heads. The LS1 has one coil per spark plug and a plastic intake manifold. The first LS1's had an oil pan known as a batwing pan because of the wing shape of the oil pan. Mine has a upgraded oil pan because the batwing oil pan had problems during acceleration which could cause the oil pressure to drop and seize the engine. I like the Chevy engines because they have the most after market parts. I think a good choice for your project would be a 283ci, 307 ci or a 327 ci. These motors have alot of interchangable parts with the 350 engines and are easy to work on. The turbo 350 and 400 transmissions can easily be adapted to it. A couple years ago I bought a 73 chevy truck with a 307 engine and turbo 350 from a tow yard. I bought the whole truck for $600. Check into a local tow yard. They usually get the cars because the people won't pay for the impound fees. You can usually get them for a good price and you will have an engine trans, axles, wiring, tires and even a registration. I like cars before 1975 because they do not require smog checks every two years in California. These are totally just suggestions, but whatever you do it will be fine.BWD
