Conrad, glad to hear from you! Looks like the tumbler is coming along. With Shaggy, Chilebean, T-man and me building a less full scale tumbler, were right behind you. Keep up the good work!! Terry

| Thanks T!! I finished the welds on the arm bracing and it's now onto steering. I'm Using a combination of shaggy's great drawing for a basic steering solution (earlier in this thread) and a rack and pinion assembly. here's the wood mockup of the steering hardware and their positioning on the front arms... 
I'm going to try and make the front steering bracket (closest to the wheel hub) look like the original steering bracket. a shot of the steering arms in relation to the R&P assembly (R&P will be mounted higher) 
...does it come in black?

| Hey Conrad, that's looking pretty strong. Great job and glad to see you posting. I'm not sure about the ball joints? I might suggest to consider a heim joint like on the end of your R&P. They have a great selection at Orchards Hardware. They have male and female fittings and right and left handed threads. They give you a little flexibility when things don't line up exactly or when the suspension is articulating (moving) hehehe I like using that word...... I might suggest that you consider using a sliding joint along the control arm for when the main steering shaft needs to lengthen or shorten. Email me and I'll let you know where to get some of those parts..... Before you tie in those steering arms you want to consider the Ackerman angle of the front steering. That refers to the front wheels turning at different rates for turning a corner. I could show you how that applies to your vehcle if you like.... Anywho its looking good and probably feels good to be back on the project....Dave

| hay conrad....you might want to do what i've done when it comes to a saw to cut your steel ...I have a 10" ryobi (sp.?) wood saw with a steel blade that I got at Home Depot put on it. it works ...ok. I got the saw off of ebay from a private seller for $60 and the blades are $5. I have gone through only 1 1/2 blades cutting everything on my build so far. keep your eyes on the paper for garage sales and bring about $100 bucks with you when you go out to these, if you lucky you'll come across a saw that allready mounted to a stand/table and you'll have the cash right there.

Umm...that's amazing because i believe i have THE SAME EXACT ONE!! it's awesome for this and yes I too still have one blade on and a spare waiting. Only it's angle cutting is quite limited. I know to compensate I can use grips to hold the workpiece but when i do that my cuts aren't that straight or i feel like it's not going to cut right.
funny that I have the same one...haha
...does it come in black?

| Ok well it seems that I've figured out my reverse dilema. I was initially going to try and figure a way to incorporate some kind of tranny onto the quad/ATV rear i wanted to use. that was turning out kinda hard for me so I opted to have no reverse. and one day Shagg mentioned finding a golf cart rear...at the time I looked online and there were a couple out there but I wanted to see one first hand. So now that I found that Golf Cart Dealer/service and sales shop RIGHT DOWN THE STREET from my office, I am going to nix the quad rear and fabricate a new rear for the engine and this.... 
Yep. A Yamaha made axle and brakes with forward and reverse tranny and the cables i need for everything. Here's a shot of the wheel hub...I'll need to figure out if i have to replace these hubs to fit the rdually rim setup I'm using. 
I'm quite happy...however this is a month away. I'm all about steering this month. T-Man's progress is so encouraging...was just looking at your steering setup again....so awesome!
...does it come in black?

| Thanks T....ironically enough, that's where i got the belt for the current B&S 8HP motor that I have MacGyvered onto my build. Will be looking to see those pics!
