Ok....I've had it with these Chinese engines. I've been looking around for an inexpensive ATV motor that's Automatic, with reverse and the only thing I find are these crappy kart and buggy engines that are made in China (direct Honda GY6 knock offs... aluminum cylinders...UGH!). I've read and personally experienced bad things with chinese engines from breaking bolts, to melting cylinders, to fine print that says DIRECTLY ON THE MOTOR..."FOR OCCASIONAL USE ONLY". Are you sh**ing me? It's sad that that country produces crap and treats their people the same way. EVEN ONE OF THE TELLERS HERE AT MY JOB, A CHINESE FEMALE MIND YOU, LOOKED AT ME LIKE I WAS CRAZY WHEN I SAID I WAS CONSIDERING A CHINESE ENGINE. I asked her to read some literature that was in written Mandarin and she looked at me and said, "you're not actually thinking about buying this are you?"

well that was the convincing moment for me. even though they are cheap and come with tranny's built in and ready to roll, No Chinese no-name engine for me. I have given up (FOR NOW) the need for reverse and will be using one of two choice engines: Honda or
Briggs & Stratton.

My friend Shaggy is going for 13HP. Not to out-do him or anything, I'm going to need more power. I "kinda" weighed my build. I say kinda because i don't have a weigh station so I used a normal scale and put Storms front end on it to get an estimate. The front end is between 250-300 pounds. right now the front seriously outweighs the back as the back is about 89 pounds. I'm figuring the whole thing will be around 600 pounds with the dually's and engine and all.

At least now I have a good idea of what engine I will be using. I now can begin the completion of the rear axle mount to my frame. I'm also STILL waiting for my shocks for the front forks. More than a week ago I paid for them on eBay and have seen nothing. Not a real big fan of buying on ebay for this exact reason.

Stay tuned!!!

Conrad, i have a 13hp engine on my family's go-cart (i'd say "MY" go-cart but i'd be lying) i will be in the area of it this coming weekend, would it help if i were to get you measurements off the engine to give you an idea of how much room it will take up if you were to go with an engine of that specifications?

Tho as i read you sound like your wanting more "oomfph" for your ride.

Anything i can do to help, let me know

Holy Sh! that def looks cool! could easily fit it. looks like it's in good condition. what's the model number? I'm curious as to how heavy the bike was or whathatever it was haulin. my frame is getting heavier. I think it's probably going to top off at 700-800lbs. that honda could probably do well with that, right? I don't know the weight of a typical bike. anyway thanks for taking the time out.

So this weekend I finished (mostly) mocking up the rest of Storm's chassis surprisingly faster than I expected. I'm going to use 1 1/4" tubing...not sure on the wall yet. I really want to try to keep the overall weight down. maybe use some kind of lightweight cromolly. to make the model I used about 30 dollars worth of PVC tubing. The tubes are set with tape for the glue in most of these pics.

Sideview

The rear shock will be upgraded but for now will use the stock one. I reinforced the bar it will bolt onto as this is the support for the entire rear chassis!
