Hi all, wow... Today I emailed Barris and asked how much it would cost for them to build me a replica of "the car" then procieeded to find this site and again... WOW!

I was 7 when the movie came out, remember it was one of the first movies my dad ever took me to (he was a car nut that used to cruze at the big boy car hop in los angeles) reciently the movie came out on cable and after watching it again, and again, and again... knew I had to have it. just gotta figure out how to rip the horn sound effect and blast that over some kind of PA system making it louder than loud.

My middle name is Lincoln, and the dream has always been to own the most bad assed looking lincoln in history. I had a Lincoln Mk 7 and it was an amazing hot rod. Now after checking out that body kit I'll be hitting craigslist hard to find me the Mk 3.

so I guess the big question is... how do we get the grill and bumpers? saw that people were suggesting truck parts but not sure how that would work. Also.. is it possible to use the origional body and interior or because of the modification is that impossible?

Side note... I live near Paso Robles, and once I get this thing done I'll be joing the Kustom club there (origional club started by Barris) and... I live so close to the Oceano Dunes it would be a sin not to build a replica of the Halo Warthog as well... can only imagine how cool it would be to leap over the sand dunes in a warthog with the sterio blasting the Halo music theme... now the only question is which I try first...

so again to everybody, great job, its really interesting to look back and read your first postings and see how all of this developed. awesome!

Hey CCRich, and welcome to CLTC! It's great to meet another Lincoln/THE CAR enthusiast! This build has been in the making since I was eight years old...so I can relate to how you're feeling.

The grille and bumpers are still being configured. I spoke with Anthony in short about the progress, and he said the windows are being put in along with the bumpers, which were being sized up. I believe everything is being custom made, including the grille which is being done in stainless steel. When Jim at BATRODZ provides me with a body, I plan to start the build immediately. Anthony did a 2" chop on the steel car, but I don't think it will be necessary to chop the car at all. This way you will be able to keep the interior in tact. To accomplish the overall look of THE CAR, only the C-pillars will have to be modified, as far as the roof goes. Jim built the fiberglass body to fit directly over any car with a 117" wheelbase. Thanks again for the interest. I'd love to hear your idea in full about the horn. Contact Jim at BATRODZ for the kit info....tell him Matt sent ya!!

They have some hella powerful and clear loudspeakers now, get a good console with the recording of the horn from the movie and presto... demonically loud horns exactly like the movie.

BTW are you planning on hot roding the engine?

Thanks for the horn info, I'll definitely be looking into it. My replica is gonna have a mildly modified engine...I'm going to concentrate mostly on exhaust for sound. I owned a hi-performance 435hp '79 Mercury Cougar, great race car but what a nightmare to maintain...let alone gas mileage.

The '56 truck bumpers look perfect....I think chevy used the same bumper on the cars for '52 as well....can someone get size specs on them? Thanks for posting!

This is a DIFFERENT CAR build that was just finished !!

In a July 2010 interview at the Saturn Awards, Hollywood directer Guillermo Del Toro mentioned that he was having his brother build him a replica of THE CAR – a murderous vehicle in a 1977 James Brolin horror film.

Billed as “Jaws” on wheels, the film follows a police captain’s (Brolin) investigation into a series of hit and run incidents, caused by a supernaturally driven killer automobile. Although panned by critics, the film has a cult following. I have not seen it, but can only imagine it might fall in the “so bad it’s good” category.

Guillermo sent us some pictures of his new pimped-out ride. He will be cruising in it this week!

I'm diggin' the tail light form a caddy. They kinda compliment the car in my opinion. Frenched and all.

This is a really sweet replica! Del Toro's brother did one hell of a job....this one looks very solid and practical to use as a daily driver. More interesting to me is a big name director who loves THE CAR....is there a possibility we'll be seeing a remake, or a sequel....hmmmmm?
