I know absolutely nothing about welding, but I will ask him when I see him next.

Hey lincolnmrk66, that is coming out great. Was there a reason you didn't go fiberglass? Can the hood stay? Are you going to primer between the sheet steel? An expandable foam might be good between the original bodsy and the sheet steel to keep it from flexing...Thanks for sharing....BWD

Hey BWD, thanks for all the info. I do NOT own the metal car anymore. A mutual friend of mine and Tony Wood is building it for George Barris to use. I don't know any details or plans they have for THE CAR, but they are allowing me to pull a set of molds for a one-off replica. So to answer your question, Rusty....Mr. Barris owns the rights to this design exclusively. He is doing me a great honor by allowing me to replicate his design. It will be up to him, whether he decides to build multiple replicas, sell molds/parts, or destroy the molds when we are done. I consider Mr. Barris a good friend, as well as hold the highest respect for him as a living legend. But I personally will not be selling copies of this vehicle.

lincolnmrk66 -- Any idea what George Barris will be using the car for? I'm guessing exhibitions.

Since he owns the rights to its likeness, that makes that one UK replica an infringement, right? (Especially considering how close it is to the original. Its probably the best I've seen so far.)

I'm sure George will be showing THE CAR. That's what he does for a living, and still enjoys it...the man is well into his 80's. He's had quite a life so far!

I guess it would be infringement, but I think he has turned a blind eye where this is concerned in the past decade or so....especially with the '66 Batmobile. There are at least 30 replicas of that, and he doesn't seem to mind. Seeing as this replica of THE CAR is so new to him, I say let him do what he wants to do with it. He does own it afterall.

Will this car be identical to the original or will it have, say, turn signals so it can be driven on special occasions?

I wouldn't say it's an 'exact' replica....but it's pretty close. Anthony always builds his cars as drivers. My fiberglass replica will definetly be road legal.

Here's the latest pic from Anthony highlighting THE CAR's new roofline. I'll be heading down soon to pull some fiberglass molds off this monster! Should be a good time
