That's a cool wheel!  If I don't go detail crazy, I think that would be sweet.  I just have to decide if I want to go custom on the interior, there is a lot of room for improvement to put controls and screens in better places.  If the rear view is going to be way on the passengers side, and I have 2 or more cameras, that will be a pain to see, and your eyes have to leave the road to check it.  Still thinking.....

Once you have the outside looking like the original - who's going to know about the inside?  The small portion of people who will actually see the inside of the car most likely will have no clue what the inside looked like.  If you stick with the major easily identifiable parts - like the aircraft instrumentation and the throttel and have a TV screen somewhere, 99.9% of people won't know the difference.  Unless you're going to try to pass your car off as the number 2 car  , I wouldn't see what would make you hold it to a 100% exact copy.   Like you said Nate, it'd be better to put some real thought into the dash and make it better.  Then keep the main parts in there (like the throttle and a bunch of non-functioning buttons and LED's) and you're set!  Just my .02...

And for the people like Mr. A and Dee that want street legal - better check local laws on open steering wheels.  It varies by state here and in my state, IA, it's illegal to have an "open" steering wheel (like KITT) or the X5 poictured above.

On a side note a friend of mine did have a KITT wheel on and said he got used to turning with it fairly quickly.  Even on turns over 90-100 deg.  You just grab a side from the bottom and take it all the way over.  I thought it looked cool. The cops that stopped him didn't.

Both of them are overseas, so I am sure their laws are completely different than ours... Good point though!

Hey - here is a good question... Dee - if you or anybody else over there builds a Batmobile, will the steering wheel be on the opposite side of the car, or do you guys not do that? A right side drive batmobile... Would be cool!

I bought a wheel, and I think it's pretty good, but I will wait until I have it in my hands and inspect it!  Stay tuned...

I looked through the state codes and laws hand book on automobile requirements statutes.
