When I cut the openings I made them 1/8" larger than the grills. I cut a lip in the fiberglass to hold them in place. I cut the depth about 1/16" deeper than the thickness of the grills, to accommodate the bonding compound. I will clean out the surrounding area with a Dremil.

So it will just be molded in, not a separate piece like the gun doors, bat disc doors, "speakers?", etc.?
Personally, I think you should fit the grills in place, do all the bondo work to form the lip and a nice 1/8" gap around them and then remove the grill and mold them both separately.
