Hey Jimmy, that just cracked me up......ever wonder why they don't put gas tanks in a tray? Because when the gas leaks there's no way to tell its collecting in the tray...and then Kaboom.....Gas tanks are generally protected with the structural steel but open at the bottom.....Maybe a skid plate....Flat piece of thick metal....BWD

Well Bigwave that makes sense you probably would not see any of the gas collecting until it was to late. leaks could happen pretty easy with either hoses or fittings or just a leak in the tank.Good safe call BW.Im with Bigwave here Nate the tray should go.

FYI to anyone who wants to bring a cockfight to my thread, don't. I am looking for friendly help, and suggestions. If your post consists of "hey, I see a problem with that, here's how I would fix it" great. If it ends with a You're an idiot, but I put a smiley face at the end" go do something else please. That goes for everyone, on every side of every angle of any person that reads this. Thanks in advance. So, back to questions, what's the best anti-rust stuff I can paint my frame with? I am not going to powdercoat, and I can just do rustoleum, but I remember a discussion about different undercoatings. I don't want something sticky or rubbery, just want to stop the rust. Jack? Nitro? what did you guys use? I know I can email this stuff to a few, but I want to lay out my process so it may help guys who come after me, and I can incorporate more good ideas as I go along. Thanks for the input, on and off the board. If you do email me with suggestions or photos, let me know if it's ok or not to add to the thread.

That's the stuff I remember talking about. Now, how much should I buy? Did you do the two step stuff first, or just slap on the por15? How many quarts, and did you top coat it? thanks Kevin and shaggy!

POR15 is good as is Rustbullet. Prep is critical to get a perfect bond. Ive used both extensively. I've now become a fan of Rustbullet over POR.

maxy, rustbullet seems to say justput it on over the rust, what sort of prep is needed? Should I buya bunch of little cans or big one? how much to do a full frame? Should I wait and do all the exposed metal at one time, or paint over all the rust, then after welding more beams on paint them? What makes you like rust bullet over por 15? rustbullet says 2 thin coats, is that the same for por 15?

Hey Rusty, thanks for chiming in! I am waiting on some photos from by dad, I will post them when he sends them, so you guys can have a better idea of where I am. Whatdid you use to apply the paint, roller, brush, spray gun? What sort of prep did you do? Do you have any shots of your roll cage after you cut it to fit? I remember seeing the whole nascar cage, but I don't remember what all you had to cut off to get it to fit. Shots of your battery, radiator, gas tank and firewall place ment would help too!
